15 Signs Fall Is Coming To Wake Forest

Goodbye Summer, and Hello Fall!

15 Signs Fall Is Coming To Wake Forest

Okay, I don’t know if anyone else is as tired of the heat as I am, but I’m really over summer, so I’m looking forward to the amazing season that is fall at Wake! There’s something about the crisp air and multicolored leaves that makes this campus feel like a different world during this season.

If you’re like me and ready for fall to get here already, then be on the lookout for these signs that “Fall is Coming.” (@Game Of Thrones fans, yes fall, not winter)

1. The Basic Beverage is Back: Yes, I’m referring to the Pumpkin Spice Latte, which has made its annual appearance at both Starbucks’ at Wake.

2. Every once in a while, in between waves of heat, and brutal sun exposure, there is a hint of a breeze, and it feels GOOD.

3. If you look towards the tops of the trees, some of the leaves are already changing. #nervousbutexcited

4. The carefree nature of summer is gone and you can see it on the faces of everyone as the “Work Forest” mentality kicks back in.

5. Costume Parties. Yes, sure there are “themes” the rest of the time as well, but people really go all out with costumes in the fall, and it’s very amusing.

6. The true partiers will stand out from the fakers, because it takes commitment to go out, as it gets colder. Rides are impossible per usual and yes I have walked back from the compound when it was 28 degrees outside. #pneumonia #winning

7. Speaking of illnesses, Student Health will be picking up soon, as the contagion that seems to live in freshman residence halls resurfaces. Students will be lined up outside the Student Heath trailers only to be turned away because they have a “respiratory virus” i.e. Student Health will do nothing for you unless you’re dying.

8. The #FallintheForest hashtag will make its comeback. Prepare yourself for the “basic” instagram pics of girls throwing leaves in the air. Potentially a few frat stars may partake as well… Some as a joke, some definitely not.

9. Your email gets bogged down from all 500 organizations starting up that you signed up for freshman year. #Unsubscribe

10. Pumpkins. Pumpkins everywhere. The true symbol of fall, pumpkins appear all over Winston Salem and on campus. They're really just fun to look at, especially when they are painted or carved.

11. Campus Tours Spike. As much as the summer attracts prospective students, so does the gorgeous scenery of Wake in the fall. This means the pit will be filled with high school students gawking at “college life” on Saturday mornings… which if we’re being honest is not our finest hour as Deacs. #Hungover&Hangry

12. Flannel Season. There’s something about a Flannel that just exudes “coziness." As fall approaches, flannels will make their comeback.

13. Halloween at Target. Since Target thinks of September as the beginning of Halloween and October as the beginning of Christmas—someone should really buy them a calendar—the aisles are already starting to fill with Halloween paraphernalia, so that is definitely a sign that fall is almost here.

14. Fall TV Shows start up. Yes, I’m talking about Grey’s Anatomy, and all the other amazing TV shows you had to wait all summer to watch.

15. Football Season. If you didn’t catch the Texas/Notre Dame game, you might not be aware, but fall has begun. With fall comes football season, so the drama and exciting endings are upon us. So be prepared to get your fantasy football league all figured out, even if you have no clue how it works… most of us don’t.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
