It was a beyond exciting time when you and your best friend opened your college acceptances. Yet, paths diverged somehow and you've ended up at different schools. You want the best for them, and even if you prefer them at your school, you are both mature enough to follow your individual dreams. Still, when the realization hits that you will be separated, you both frantically start mapping out plans to make it work. Being apart has created some moments that are far too familiar:
1. When you see them post a picture with a new friend
How dare they have a social life?
2. “What days are you on break?”
You never know TBH..
3. Spamming their social media when they post something cute
Go best friend, that's my best friend.
4. Trying to long-distance stalk their new love interest to approve him/her
If you hurt them I will hurt you.
5. All your new friends know who they are because all your best stories are with them
They're basically on a first name basis without ever meeting at this point.
6. After not talking for a while, you pick up right where you left off
Everything is easier with them.
7. Dishing out the week’s drama over a several hour long phone call
So much as happened since you last called them, and you always end up talking longer than you intended.
8. When they visit your school you want to impress them
*Purposefully walks through the prettiest parts of campus* "Oh, yes, this is nothing."
9. When you visit them you still love your school more
Sorry but our brick buildings are better than your brick buildings.
10. Calling them the second you find out some drama on that person you went to high school with
Someone gets pregnant and both you wonder how they can take care of a child when you can barely take care of yourselves.
11. Missing having that one person who understands you better than anyone
Most of your friendships are at the beginning stage and it feels strange being on that surface-level still.
12. They taught you things that you don't know how to do without them
Wait, how long until I'm supposed to text back?
13. When you did something you know they'll disapprove of and you feel guilty
You're pretty sure they will drive hours just to come and slap you.
14. Tagging them in memes that remind you of them
What in separation? *insert cowboy hat*
15. Being proud of their growth and success, even if it means you have to be apart
You figure when they're rich and famous you can mooch off of them.
If you can make it through this, you can make it through anything. You are also so incredibly busy with school that it isn't actually that bad after all. The breaks come faster than you thought they would, and your Snapchat streak allows you to see them (virtually) everyday. Who knows, perhaps they'll get a fancy internship across the country upon graduating college, and you'll be in this long-distance loophole all over again. Regardless, they're your best friend no matter what, and you are ready to take on any struggle with them.
