10 Reasons You Should Attend Chi Omega's War Of The Wings

It's the greatest time of year: Chi Omega's annual War of the Wings event is almost here! On March 24, 2017 from 5-7 p.m., you can come out to Music Farm for just $7 to watch (or participate in) a wing-eating contest filled with fun music, great competition and adorable Wish children. So why should you come out to the greatest event of the spring semester?

1. All proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

All of the money Chi Omega raises goes straight to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Our goal this year is $20,000 -- which can help us grant two children's wishes. Buy tickets at the door or online

2. Adorable kids will be there.

Many Make-A-Wish recipients and their families come out for the event, sharing in the fundraising. Many of these have close ties with Chi Omega Eta Gamma and are the sweetest (and most fun) group of people.

3. It's a wing-eating contest.

Which means you get to watch people stuff their faces with wings. And make a mess. And also watch girls destroy the boys (trust me, it's fun).

4. It's at Music Farm.

Columbia's favorite place! This also means we'll have great music and a fun vibe to supplement the wing-eating extravaganza that's happening.

5. There will be additional food and games.

It wouldn't be a Chi Omega event without corn hole and an excess of food (think Moe's chips and queso). It's why they call us Chow Omega.

6. You can win free stuff.

The event always has a raffle, so not only are you benefitting children in need and eating yummy good, you also can get a little something extra for yourself.

7. There's going to be a parents team.

Chi Omega's Parents Weekend is the same weekend, so we're having a team of parents compete in this wing-eating experience. Does it sound incredible? That's because it's going to be.

8. It's on a Friday.

What better way to start off your Friday night than with some wings, music and Wishes? It's from 5-7 p.m. so there are minimal conflicts with classes or Friday night plans.

9. Binge-eating is a form of stress relief.

It's science. You get to play corn hole and down as much free food as you can -- it's the ideal way to top off the week.

10. It's a lot of fun and you change a child's life.

Chi Omega has very deep, personal ties with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we have seen firsthand the ways in which children's Wishes have changed their lives, especially in the midst of something as grueling as chemotherapy. By paying just $7 to have a great time, you're helping Chi Omega continue to support children every single day.

Contact a Chi Omega with any questions, and we'll see you March 24!

two women enjoying confetti

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
