15 Reasons Why I’d Vote Stevie Nicks For President

“I was not going to be a stupid girl singer. I was going to be way more than that.”

She's more than just chiffon and Rumors. But before you get any big ideas, this is not an actual political article. Many people have looked at this whole election as one big joke, so I’m going to play along with that. I’m making the (comical) radical statement that I think Stevie Nicks should be our next president. Now, there are probably some things you are wondering when I say this:

First of all, who the hell is Stevie Nicks? To this, I say if you don’t know who Stevie is, then I’m sorry you haven’t been privy to the best female singer of all time. She was one of the lead singers in Fleetwood Mac, which was a hot band in the ‘70s (back when music was actually good—don’t even try to argue against this). Following her fame with the band, she became a hit solo artist.

Second, why would I even think of something like this? Well, my answer to this is why not? She’d totally ROCK the position of being in charge of our country (haha, see what I did there?).

Third, why would she make such a great president, anyways? Ha! Let me lay it all out for you so that you can have crystal visions of why this iconic woman would be such a phenomenal president for our steadily sinking country:

15. She embraces her fears

"If you have stage fright, it never goes away. But then I wonder: is the key to that magical performance because of the fear?"

If this witchy babe was president, she’d perform works of magic and get this country back to where it should be—and she wouldn’t be afraid to do it.

14. She understands the faults with technology

In a recent interview, Stevie let everyone know that she's not big on tech. And anyone who's willing to see that technology is a large part of our society's problem is (in my eyes) already halfway worthy of being the president.

13. She'd be the most elegant and classy president

Has there ever been a time when you looked at Stevie and thought to yourself, “geez, what a terrible outfit?”

No?

Good, I didn’t think so.

12. She speaks the truth

If she can be totally open with her fans through her beautifully written lyrics, then I think she’d be willing to give everyone that same level of truth if we plopped her into the White House. She definitely wouldn’t be another lying politician, that’s for sure!

11. She doesn't let anyone control her

There’s a great scene in the In Your Dreams documentary where Stevie Nicks is discussing collaboration. She talks over a song draft with Lindsey Buckingham, and he then proceeds to tell her that the song lyrics can’t jump from the first to the second person, and it would be a much stronger song if she fixed the issue. She smiles boldly at him and asks, “Would you tell Bob Dylan that?” You can then see Lindsey’s shoulders droop because he knows there’s no way he’s winning this argument. Stevie has a mind of her own, and no one can tie this gypsy down.

10. She knows how to diplomatically get along with others...

Stevie went through one of the most public breakups and heartbreaks in the history of the music industry. But even though she and Lindsey called it quits, she stayed in Fleetwood Mac with him, produced Rumors (one of the greatest selling albums of all time), and had to sing backup in songs Lindsey wrote that slandered her. Yet she still made it work. It took a while, but she and Lindsey Buckingham are now great friends. And if this isn’t the most diplomatic thing you’ve ever heard, then I don’t know what is.

9. ...and she knows how to be a boss on her own

After her journey with Fleetwood Mac, Stevie went on to be a great solo artist. Currently, she is still performing and touring on her own, and loving every minute of it. You best know if she were President Nicks, she wouldn't need to depend on other politicians for her to do her job the right way.

8. She admits when she's wrong

Stevie’s only marriage was to Kim Anderson, the widower of her good friend Robin Anderson. They got together soon after Robin died of leukemia. When looking back on her reason for marrying her late friend’s husband, she said: “I was determined to take care of [Robin's] baby, so I said to Kim, 'I don't know, I guess we should just get married.’" But the marriage didn’t last for long, and they divorced after only a few months: "We didn't get married because we were in love, we got married because we were grieving and it was the only way that we could feel like we were doing anything.” Stevie stood back and realized what she was doing wasn't necessarily the right thing, and that's a quality America needs in a president.

7. She's passionate

This point is pretty self-explanatory if you’ve ever listened to literally any song Stevie has written and performed. And if you indeed have done so, then you don’t need me to sit here and tell you about the passion that radiates from this incredible woman’s soul.

6. She overcame addiction

It’s no secret that Stevie had her bad past experiences with drugs. She maintained a severe cocaine habit that eventually created a hole in her nasal cartilage and she also became addicted to pain killers. But she worked hard to battle her addictions, and she didn’t let them overcome her. Because of her determination to better herself from her messy past, I bet she could take this country and turn it around—just like she did for herself.

5. She's already dealt with an American Horror Story

Yeah, that’s right. She was on Season 3 of American Horror Story. She’s already rocked the fictional AHS, so I think we should elect her to fix the REAL American Horror Story—the one that our country is currently in.

4. Stevie is an Authentic Role-Model

You simply cannot argue that she isn’t true to herself, even 40+ years after becoming a huge sensation. Not only that, but she is a wonderful role model for women of all ages. Throughout the decades, this Gold Dust Woman has proven to be as real as they come, and if she were in office, we wouldn’t be dealing with anyone fake.

3. She lives simply

Stevie isn’t about the hype. She’s not plastered on tabloid covers. She doesn’t do anything for “the fame.” This gypsy soul leads a simple, quiet, and humble life…and maybe that’s the type of woman this country really needs.

2. She has always dared to be different

Over-the-knee high platform boots, fringe-adorned clothes, flared denim and lace dresses, flow-y sleeves, bohemian layers, long shawls. No one can hold a candle to her amazing style, and she knows just how to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Why would this matter if she were president? Well, I think different is exactly what this country needs right now.

1. Stevie is a queen that rules with an iron fist...in a lace glove

Stevie is a gypsy queen, and she’s been so for quite a long time. Not only that, but she handles this title (bestowed upon her by her fans, of course) with such grace. If you couldn’t tell already, Stevie is not only my queen, but she is also one of my biggest inspirations and my hero. If she can handle being the queen of her adoring fans, then I think she could be our president with ease.

With love, by Ari.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.

15 Things That Happen On Your Birthday

Do you have a small get-together or throw a big bash?

5221
birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.
