1. Mobile is a beautiful city. It's full of beautiful scenery, exciting traditions, and some of the most amazing people you could ever meet. It's a growing city with opportunities for everyone! Mobile provides a wonderful home to The University of South Alabama.

2. The Students. If you've ever attended a South Alabama football game, went to a Jaguar Productions event, or even attended a service event with any organization on campus, it's very clear that the spirit is alive and well with the jags!

3. It's a great school for leaders. South Alabama is still developing traditions and looking for ways to make our campus the best it can possibly be. South is home to some of the finest leadership across any college campus. The SGA truly makes a massive difference at South Alabama and is full of fresh ideas to help South grow.

4. Having a degree from the University of South Alabama truly means something. Many of the academic programs here are competitive and selective, and being considered University of South Alabama alumni will be an honor! Even with the degree programs that are less selective, being a graduate of South Alabama is something to be proud of. The education offered at South Alabama really is one of a kind!

5. The buildings on campus are incredibly nice. The student center is a beautiful place to chill out or study, the recreation center has a rock wall and a built in smoothie cafe, and our library has a Starbucks located at the entrance. The buildings provide a nice atmosphere for anyone to focus on school or just have fun with their friends!

6. There's a club for everyone. From Greek life to Professional Honor Societies for almost every major, students can find themselves involved. There's faith-based clubs, workout classes, intermurals, art club, creative writing, a fishing club, and there's even a board game club. Seriously- you won't have a problem making friends at South.

7. The professors really care. Most of my professors will go the extra mile to help you understand and succeed in your classes. There's plenty of extra credit opportunities and the advising center at South Alabama will help you find a student tutor that can really help you understand any complicated material in any subject. South Alabama wants you to grow and succeed.

8. The Jag family is always there for each other. Groups on campus have come together for several different purposes. When Baton Rouge flooded in August, South Alabama students came together and collected thousands of materials to give to those in need. The Jags are always there to help one another.

9. Students can seriously make a difference on campus. The administration at South is always looking for ways to make our campus a better place and I assure you that your voice will always be heard.

10. There are service projects everywhere. Groups on campus volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, local orphanages, canned food drives, Keep Mobile Beautiful, Coastal Cleanup, and hundreds of other service projects and charity events. Not only does service make you feel good inside, but it makes the world around you a better place. Go Jags!

11. There are coffee shops everywhere. Of course you can always find a Starbucks, but there's also plenty of local coffee shops in Mobile! If you're in the area, try Satori, Carpe Diem, or Serda's, just to name a few.

12. Southern hospitality is a big deal. People around south are willing to do almost anything to make you feel at home! In Mobile, smiling faces are all over the place and it's easy to find happiness.

13. South is located about 30 minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches! Hangout Fest is held in Gulf Shores every year, which is always a blast.

14. It's not hard to find an internship in Mobile. Downtown Mobile is home to a great business district and an expansive shipyard. There are many hospitals in Mobile, making it a great place to find a job in healthcare. Offices in Mobile are generally very optimistic about giving fantastic employment opportunities to the youth.

15. #WeAreSouth. With South's new campaign, The University isn't afraid to proclaim how the students and faculty here are ready to make a lasting impact on the world around us. South isn't just a college; it is a way of life.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
