15 Reasons To Thank My Roommate

When you live with somebody for a year, it sure is easy to come up with handfuls of things that they deserve credit for.

The hardest part about starting freshman year of college is the roommate selection process. Deciding to pick a roommate instead of going random is always a little risky, but did I luck out.

My roommate and I had a conversation on Facebook about our mutual makeup obsession, which turned into the stereotypical "what's your major????" kind of conversation, but hey it has to happen at some point. We met once before the school year started, and we decided to room together despite still being near strangers. Now, at the end of freshman year, I have so much to thank that stranger for.

1. Her closet

I can't be the only one who gets sick of an outfit the literal second I purchase it. Within a month of being at school, I had worn every outfit I liked at least twice. If it weren't for the second closet in the room, I don't think I would have survived past Thanksgiving break. PRO TIP: Get yourself a roommate who wears the same size as you in everything. It's like Christmas every time you don't have something to wear.

2. Our Domino's orders

Nothing beats some stuffed cheesy bread from Domino's at 2 in the morning. Not only could I 100% count on my roommate for having the same craving every night, but I could also count on her to stay awake with me for the hour that it took to be delivered to Towers.

3. Her Uber account

I'm unsure of how one ends up getting assigned Uber duty for the semester, but my roommate was made for the position. She had it down to a science. I can genuinely credit her for getting me home every night of the semester.

4. Supporting all of my decisions

I've always valued a friend that can tell me I'm wrong, but also completely support whatever decision it is that I have made. My roommate loved to lay out the facts but was always my #1 hype man. I have never been more confident in being wrong in my entire life because of her.

5. Letting me sleep

This in itself deserves an award. When I decide it's going to be an early night, she NEVER woke me up. Given, I am a pretty heavy sleeper, but people still manage to take me out of my most peaceful state. I'd also like to thank her for not snoring because that really could've ruined a lot for me.

6. Not letting me go anywhere alone

The first week of school was super weird because neither I nor my roommate knew a soul, given we were both from Massachusetts. This is where we made the unwritten pact that we would never allow each other to eat, walk, or be alone in general. It's nice to have somebody that will accompany me anywhere if I ask.

7. Helping me when I forget my key

We've all had that moment of panic when you turn the handle and it just won't budge. Luckily, my roommate was always willing to help, whether it was leaving her key in the middle of campus for me to *hopefully* find first, or simply leaving it unlocked when she left for her next class. We were such a tag team, but I am still surprised we never had to call to have someone unlock it for us.

8. Making me laugh until I cry

When people ask me how I get along with my roommate, I can genuinely say that she is the funniest person I know. This girl deserves her own reality TV show because she could have all of America rolling on the floor laughing.

9. Rooming with me again

Not having to figure out a new roommate for sophomore year has been such a blessing. I'm so lucky to have found someone that I live so well with that I never had to question living with her again next year.

10. Sitting in the trunk with me, when necessary

Although it may have been a terrifying experience, sitting in the trunk for 15 minutes is something I'd consider doing again with my roommate. It smelled like socks and I had no idea where we were at any point in time, but again, my roommate is the funniest person I know. I had some good laughs in that trunk.

11. Getting to the early AM tailgates with me

It may have taken us several alarms to wake up, but once we did, we were dedicated. Getting ready before the sun comes up is a STRUGGLE, but I was never in it alone.

12. Always taking AUX

If I'm being honest, I am the worst at being in charge of the AUX. My roommate seemed to have a playlist for every mood we were feeling, and she would never disappoint. It's almost like she played exactly the song I wanted before I even knew it's what I wanted... every single time.

13. Having similar spending habits

There's nobody else I know that spends money the way that I do, except for my roommate. I have had to confiscate her debit card, but she always found a way. Between Sephora, Forever 21, and Amazon, we received far too many packages to the Towers mailroom.

14. Spa nights

My favorite nights were always those full of face masks and nail polish. I could always count on my roommate to join me for those things, or even become my personal nail technician or body waxer if I really needed her to. She functioned in so many useful ways.

15. Being my best friend

My freshman year was an experience for the books. I experienced so many crazy fun and crazy important things, and she was there for it all. She's someone who makes me look forward to getting back into the swing of things because there's never a dull moment when I'm living with her. I couldn't be more thankful for every memory we made together and I'm beyond excited to see what else we have in store.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
