1. The Strip District
The Strip District features sidewalk vendors, markets, produce stands and local, ethnic restaurants.
2. The Incline and Mount Washington
Ride up and down the mountain on two inclines, the Duquesne and the Monongahela. At the top of Mount Washington, enjoy the best view of downtown Pittsburgh. Don't forget to dine at one of the restaurants or hike the city park, Emerald View.
4. Primanti Brothers
If you want a real, Pittsburgh sandwich, go to Primanti's. Yes, they put coleslaw and fries on all their sandwiches.
5. The Mattress Factory
The Mattress Factory is Pittsburgh's contemporary art museum and experimental lab, designed to change your perception of space and art.
6. Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium
The Pittsburgh Zoo boast as one of the only six m zoo and aquarium combinations in the U.S.
7. Kennywood Park
Kennywood is representative of so many of my childhood memories. The historic park has some of the oldest wooden roller coasters still in operation, including my favorite, The Jack Rabbit.
8. The Cultural District
If you love the arts, The Cultural District has an array of shops, restaurants, theaters, parks, and art galleries.
Since its transformation through the efforts of the nonprofit organization, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, The Cultural District has shown the power the arts has on improving a city. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says, "The Trust is the single greatest creative force in Pittsburgh because of its spirit of reinvention."
9. Hartwood Acres Park
Hartwood Acres Park is centered around its mansion with a beautiful country estate. The park offers trails for hiking, biking and running, as well as outdoor entertainment and concerts.
10. PNC Park, Heinz Field, PPG Paints Arena
Pittsburgh is known for its spirit and pride for its sports teams. From the Terrible Towel to raising the Jolly Roger, to winning The Stanley Cup, Pittsburgh is the city to beat in sports. Also, PNC Park has to be the stadium with the best view.
11. Andy Warhol Museum
Andy Warhol was a Pittsburgh native, and the museum seeks to preserve his legacy globally. It features work from all periods, including student work.
12. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History and The Carnegie Museum of Art
The two distinctive museums preserve our past and present history within the community and around the world.
13. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
The steel and glass greenhouse, established in 1893, showcases the beauty of plants while promoting environmental awareness. Its artistic displays are breathtaking.
14. South Side, South Side Works
The South Side Works is the urban shopping destination of Pittsburgh with several retail stores, restaurants, and a cinema.
15. The National Aviary
Yes, Pittsburgh is home to America's indoor zoo for birds.
Walk through habitats of free-flying birds, feed and meet the birds. The Aviary provides a home for threatened and endangered species, as well as a place to educate our world and develop research.
