1. The Welcome Wagon
Something about Richard Attenborough’s welcome to the park brings back our inner '90s kid.
2. Velociraptors
This movie introduced us to some of the most fearsome dinosaurs in the series. These were intelligent, vicious creatures, not Cretacean attack dogs (yes, "Jurassic World" I'm looking at you).
3. Laura Dern
She sets the mood of every scene simply by changing her facial expression. From absolute terror, to disgust, to childhood wonderment. She's also a bona fide badass female. Whether it's going off in Velociraptor territory, digging through massive dino droppings or calling Hammond out on his sexism, this lady is a force to be reckoned with.
4. The Kitchen Scene
Unless they figure out how to open doors ... This scene brought nightmares to kids in the '90s. It put us too close to the Velociraptor. Thank god for reflective appliances and freezer doors.
5. The "Advanced" Technology
It's so cool to look back and see the cutting edge technology of the time, especially the awe-inspiring Unix system, and the interactive CD-ROM technology. If you'd like to take control of Jurassic Park's security system, check out this website.
6. Amazing, Tasteful Product Placement
Unlike the most recent installment (complete with Brookstone and Starbucks), the product placement in this movie actually revolved around things the characters needed. The Barbasol can to carry embryos and the Jeep vehicles to get around the park. I still want one of those Jeep Saharas.
7. The Animation
After 22 years, this animation still stands up to its modern peers. This film proved CGI was a viable tool for moviemaking in a time where there was much doubt over its cost-effectiveness (thanks, "Tron"). It also didn't over saturate us with CGI like so many current movies.
8. This cup of water
This is probably one of the most iconic scenes in modern cinema. Its so simple but so ominous.
9. The T-Rex
This 9 ton lizard may only have four scenes in the movie, but it is responsible for some of the most terrifying and memorable moments in the movie. Fun fact: the scene where the T-Rex breaks through the plexiglass roof of the car was actually an accident caused by the animatronic rex.
10. Doctor Ian Malcolm
Our favorite chaotician and bearer of bad news. Probably why so many moms were eager to see this movie. He has sparked countless memes and is credited with countless unforgettable lines in the movie.
11. Dilophosaurus
No scene in this movie is more satisfying than watching the Dilophosaurus take down Newman, oops, I mean, Nedry.
12. Stan Winston
This legendary special effects creator was responsible for movie magic in the "Terminator" series, "Aliens," the first two "Predator" movies, and the "Jurassic Park" films. Some scenes were shot with these amazing animatronics, including some of the T-Rex and Brachiosaurus appearances.
13. The Soundtrack
It should come as no surprise that the legendary theme song was created by John Williams. Williams is responsible for the music of "Harry Potter," "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," "Superman," and "Jaws." This movie's theme just evokes a sense of adventure and wonder.
14. It Invented the GIF
"I hate this hacker crap!"
15. Lack of Supervision
YOU HAD ONE JOB PHIL!! But we're glad you didn't do it.
