15 Reasons Why BGSU Proves To Be My Dream School
Bowling Green

1. It's brought me to meet some amazing people

It's easy to say that Bowling Green has led me to some great friends. It's hard to believe that I've went most of my life not knowing the people who now feel like family.

2. There's so many organizations to choose from

Whether you're in a fraternity or sorority, write for the school's newspaper or Odyssey, work with Feed My Starving Children, are a tour guide, or participate in the numerous other organizations that BG has to offer, everyone can find their place on this campus.

3. There's a Starbucks in the middle of campus

This may hurt your Falcon Dollars, but it's worth it. That caramel macchiato can be a life saver during your dreadful 8am's.

4. The greek village is like an actual village

The new greek village is a scenic part of campus. On warm days, there's always people outside playing football, blasting music, and grilling food.

5. Downtown on the weekends

The night life downtown is something to look forward to during the long weekdays. Whether you're dancing at Uptown or Shots Inc, having a chill night at 149, or just people watching, you're bound to have an interesting night in BG.

6. The Mac and Cheese bar obviously!

Mac and Cheese bar days at the Oaks is always something to look forward to. The line to get in will be all the way out the door and the upperclassman will be begging you to swipe them in, but the five plates that you consume will make it all worth it.

7. There's always something going on in the union oval

Whether there's fraternity men getting pied, CHAARG girls working out, or students doing homework in their Eno hammocks, there's always something going on at the oval.

8. The fact we're getting a Steak n Shake

In the fall of 2017, Steak n Shake is coming to The Falcons Nest in place of Steak Escape. It's a safe bet that this will make everyone's Falcon Dollars plummet but the food will be good!

9. The people I live with are always there for me

Whether I have a good or bad day, I can always count on the people who live on my floor. There's always at least 10 to fifteen people in the lounge who are there to go grab food, watch tv, or just to talk.

10. Dairy Queen is within walking distance

This is essential on the weekends and the warm spring days.

11. The rec is always popping

The recreational center is free to all the students and there's always a million people there. Whether you're lifting, running, playing basketball, swimming, or even climbing the rock wall, you can always stay active at the rec.

12. Panera AND Insomnia deliver here

These places don't deliver in many places but they do in Bowling Green. This can be a blessing and a curse for your bank account.

13. We have our own NFL player

Roger Lewis, the New York Giant's wide receiver, recently came back to BGSU to finish some classes.

14. The squirrels are always friendly

Everyone knows that BG has a thing for their squirrels. They really will walk right up to you and take food.

15. It's a perfect home away from home

Bowling Green has turned into one of my favorite places. The people I've met and the endless opportunities it has provided me with has showed me that this is my dream school.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
