I remember back in my high school days, being labeled as a “nerd” was about as close as it could get to being called a loser. Back then, popularity took dominance over intelligence and because of that, so called “nerds” had a rough time. Often, it was as if those who valued their education were discriminated against and given the lower hand. Luckily, nearly this transforms itself in a total 180 rotation once we hit college.
For those currently in high school, or are of the same age as general high-schoolers, let me just say—College is generally a great time regardless of your GPA. But being a college nerd actually gets us quite a few perks. If anything, the best thing to be in college is a nerd.
1. Sexy GPA's
2. Solid Study Habits
3. You have more opportunities (research/volunteering/internships)
4. You have a better chance professors will recognize you and want to write letters of recommendation
5. Tutoring makes big $$$
6. You can possibly become famous! (Publish/collaborate on some kick ass research and make yourself known!)
7. You get to grace your non-nerd friends with knowledge at random times
8. You tend to be organized
9. You’re goal oriented
10. You’re responsible and dependable
11. Coffee is cheaper than liquor
12. You become an information goddess during finals week
13. You have an actual love for learning
14. You know how to have fun… and remember it the next morning
15. Hard work really does pay off
So whether you're in college, high school, or anything at all, there is no problem with wanting to achieve more.
Maybe it's best explained by Leonard from "The Big Bang Theory,"
