15 Quotes That Shaped Who I Am
Well+Good

One of the first boards that I created when I got a Pinterest was a quotes board. I love to go through and read the short phrases that related to me so strongly once. I can tell what was pinned at what point in my life, and I think that is simply beautiful. I have been asked the question what is your favorite quote many, many times. I think it is amazing how a few words, placed in a certain order can make or break a person. Here are 15 of my favorite quotes, and why they stood out to me.

"Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet." Bob Marley

If you haven't ever been inspired by something Bob Marley has said, I am honestly surprised. My mom taught me from a young age that simple things are the best things. We shouldn't be afraid to stop and smell the flowers, and that your outlook on life will affect the way your life will go. I love dancing in the rain, looking for rainbows, and splashing in puddles. Its all in the perspective.

"No two persons ever read the same book." Edmund Wilson

I love this. Every person comes from a different place. We all see things differently, because we have been through different things. Don't judge a book by its cover, there is always a good story somewhere inside.

"Keep your mind set, keep you hair long, oh my darlin', keep your head up, keep your heart strong"

This one was pinned when I was having a bad day. There had been some drama with a friend, and I was questioning what I should do. This hit me really hard. It was music to me. I needed to hear this, and I reread it whenever I doubt myself.

"Better to be the one who smiled than the one who didn't smile back."

How true is this! I would much rather be a positive person who believes the best in people than not. I love smiling at random people, and it can make the biggest difference in someone's day.

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience."

What a good reminder. We are so much more then a body who has feelings. We are here for a greater purpose, and we get to do that on this crazy, stupid, wonderful world.

"Your day will go the way the corners of your mouth turn"

Retweet. I live this daily! I would testify this to anyone who asks. Your attitude is everything. In 8th grade I had to memorize a poem which emphasized this same thing, and I am grateful for this outlook everyday.

"You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who doesn't like peaches." Dita Von Ceese

This always hits me hard. I used to have a really hard time when people didn't like me. I was always really quiet, and I know many people who thought I hated them because I didn't talk to them. I am so grateful that this quote found itself on my home page because it has changed the way I view people's opinions of me forever.

"She was a girl who knew how to be happy even when she was sad. And that's important." Marilyn Monroe

Can you tell being happy is a goal of mine? I try to be this girl everyday. And it has made the biggest difference in my life.

"What Susie says of Sally, says more of Susie than of Sally"

This is another one that I found while having a hard time with a friend. It was a gentle reminder that what other people say about me isn't valid, and the only person that has to care about what they think about me, is me.

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." Audrey Hepburn

If I had a life motto it would be this. I couldn't have said it better myself.

"The best things in life are unseen. That's why we close our eyes when we kiss, laugh, and dream."

Three of my favorite things. I fell in love with this quote, and I am falling harder for it everyday.

"I believe in the sun even if it isn't shining, I believe in love even when I'm alone, and I believe in God even when He is silent."

When my young women's group went to girl's camp, I would cry every time we sang this song. If there is one thing I know in this world, it is that there is a plan for each of us, and believing is so so so important.

"If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's we would grab ours back."

You never know what people are going or went through. I wouldn't trade my trails and hardships with anyone, because they were made for me, and made me who I am today. Someone always has it worse than you do.

"A Sufi man was asked what forgiveness is. He said, "It is the smell flowers give off after they have been crushed.""

I read this a fell in love. We could all do a little better to forgive another, even after we have been crushed.

"Just because you don't look like somebody who you think is beautiful doesn't mean you aren't. Flowers are pretty and so are Christmas lights, and they look nothing alike."

Can we take a minute to take this in. This was life changing to me. I am always comparing myself to other people. I am always wishing I had the features of others. This was the perfect quote for me to see.

Feel inspired. Breathe deep. And move on. These are some of the things that made me who I am today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
