Those who know me understand my undeniable, unwavering love of quotes. If we're out, there's always a chance that I'll get sidetracked and try to snap a photo if I stumble upon a wall dec that has a saying or words on it. There's even a wall in my room dedicated to photos and quotes. It's the power of words and how writing them down makes it all seem much more meaningful, concrete and everlasting. I'm sure I'll come up with more quote-based articles so, stay tuned. And, if you're anything like me, here's a few quotes to get you and your soul inspired.

1.) “You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

—Benjamin Mee, We Bought A Zoo

2.) “Not everyone will understand your journey. That’s okay. You’re here to live your life, not to make everyone understand.”

—Banksy

3.) “I’m old-fashioned and think that reading books is the most glorious pastime that humankind has yet devised.”

—Wislawa Szymborska

4.) “We were all heading for each other on a collision course, no matter what. Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story.”

—Jandy Nelson, I’ll Give You The Sun

5.) “Trust your heart if the seas catch fire, live by love though the stars walk backward.”

—E.E. Cummings

6.) “Don’t worry if people think you’re crazy. You are crazy. You have that kind of intoxicating insanity that lets other people dream outside of the lines and become who they’re destined to be.”

—Jennifer Elizabeth, Born Ready: Unleash Your Inner Dream Girl

7.) “If you love beauty, it’s because beauty lives within you. If you love art, it’s because you are creative. If it wakes up your heart, a receptor for it already exists within you. Your soul is drawn to the things that will help you unfold your most glorious expression. Give in.”

—Cynthia Occelli

8.) “I am restless. Things are calling me away. My hair is being pulled by the stars again.”

—Anais Nin

9.) “Develop your sense—especially learn to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.”

—Leonardo da Vinci

10.) “So build your compassion, build your grace. Your next big breath could become the next big bang, the single saving spark that lights the fire……So build yourself as beautiful as you want your world to be. Wrap yourself in light then give yourself away with your heart, your brush, your march, your art, your poetry, your clay. And for every day you paint the war, take a week and paint the beauty. The color, the shape of the landscape you’re marching towards. Everybody knows what you’re against; show them what you’re for.”

Andrea Gibson, Evolution

11.) “Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run…but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant…”

12.) “don’t worry about other people. wear your happiness on your skin. be proud of what you have built. it only has to make sense to you.”

Christopher Poindexter, Naked Human

14.) “Breathe, my friend. You are not old, you are young. You are not a mess, you are normal. Extraordinary, perhaps. In the blink of an eye your life will change. And it will continue to change for decades to come. Enjoy it, embrace it… be grateful for the ride. You are not old, you are young. And faith will get you everywhere. Just you wait.”

Abby Larson

15.) “…for mine is a generation that circles the globe and searches for something we haven’t tried before. So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite, and never outstay the welcome. Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurt, you know what? It’s probably worth it.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
