Those who have a guilty weakness to travel (like myself), there are positive pros and extreme cons. One of the cons traveling offers is a large price tag.
Having a student quota, it seems nearly impossible to travel anywhere outside of the country. Normally, I would suggest taking a trip to your local city and explore it in depth. But, it has come to my attention that there are several cities that are an easy commute by car and/or plane, and they are inexpensive, which is a double win.
In Arizona:
Grand Canyon
Surprisingly there is a town called Supai Village located at the base of the Grand Canyon.
In California:
San Diego
San Diego produces the most avocados in the United States.
In Colorado:
Denver
Denver has the most walkable downtowns in the nation.
In Florida:
Daytona
You can drive and park your car on the beaches of Daytona.
Jacksonville
Jacksonville is the largest city in the continental United States with over 840 square miles.
In Georgia:
Atlanta
You just gotta visit the “Dirty South” just once and experience what Atlanta’s nightlife has to offer.
Dahlonega
Dahlonega is a very small town in the mountains, but they have great wineries to choose from. And trust me, you would want to go back for some more.
Savannah
Want a mixture of southern history, small city feel, and the beach? This lovely city in south Georgia is perfect for you then.
In Louisiana:
New Orleans
Get those Vegas and Nashville vibes with a twist of French.
In New Mexico:
Albuquerque
Who wouldn’t want to visit where “High School Musical” was filmed?
In Tennessee:
Chattanooga
The Rock City Gardens, Riverbend Festival (a week-long music festival), and the nightlife will make you feel like a local.
Gatlinburg
Visiting the Great Smoky Mountains in the cooler season is to die for!
Memphis
Elvis Presley is from here. Do I need to say more?
Nashville
Las Vegas is very pricey, especially for being on a tight budget. But, Nashville never fails and there is so much you can do from dusk 'til dawn.
In Texas:
San Antonio
This city has been named “every Texan’s favorite city.”
Even though I only named 15 southern cities; that does not mean these are the only cities available to visit on a short college budget. These cities have a mixture of historic sites for during the day activities and killer nightlife if and when you want to paint the town red with your company.
Experience. Explore. Enjoy.
