15 Memorable 'SNL' Sketches And Characters

Now that it's summer, and "Saturday Night Live" is on hiatus, I've been watching clips from the past 41 seasons. When "SNL" first started in 1975, it had nine cast members, including Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner - now it has 16. 142 cast members later, some of the "SNL" cast members have become huge household names, such as Eddie Murphy, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Andy Sandberg, Seth Meyers, Bill Murray, the list goes on and on. From theses talents came some of the most memorable sketches and characters.

1. The Nerds

Gilda Radner and Bill Murray are Lisa Loopner and Todd. They tackle going to Prom and The Broken Fridge.

2. NPR's Delicious Dish

Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon and Alec Baldwin are hilarious in a skit that makes fairly innocent products a breeding ground for sexual innuendos. Margaret Jo McCullin and Terry Rialto talk to Pete Schweddy about his holiday treat in NPR's Delicious Dish: Schweddy Balls.

3. Matt Foley

When your kids need help, you know who to call - Matt Foley. You know where he lives, "In a van down by the river!" He is the perfect person to call to help talk your children out of ever taking drugs. Chris Farley stars as the hilarious motivational speaker.

4. Spartan Cheerleaders

"One, Two, Three, Four, Five! Mighty Spartans don't take no jive! Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten! Let's back it up and do it again!" No one can forget Will Ferrell and Cherri Oteri as Craig and Arianna, the Spartan Cheerleaders who cheer despite not making the squad. Their first appearance was cheering for the football team in 1995.

5. Landshark

Being know for eating its prey by disguising its voice, Landshark is a threat to all. Chevy Chase dangerously enters these homes as Landshark.

6. Stefon

"New York's Hottest Club is..." New York City Correspondent is a staple to the Seth Meyers era of Weekend Update. Bill Hader plays the over the top Stefon. "This place has everything..." From his obscene location ideas to his obscure references, Stefon is the person you want to go to with all your New York City activities planning.

7. Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton

Every election year is gold for "SNL," but the 2008 presidential election was the jackpot. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton is incredibly hilarious. From their first cold open in 2008, the comedic dynamic duo addressed the nation as Palin and Clinton.

8. Wayne's World

Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey are Wayne Campbell and Garth. "It's Friday, it's 10:30, it's time to party, I'm your excellent host Wayne Campbell, with me as always is Garth. ' Party on Wayne' 'Party on Garth'." You know it's time to party when "Wayne's World" comes on. Here is the sketch when Aerosmith came to visit "Wayne's World."

9. Kissing Family

There's nothing like family during the holidays, especially if you're part of the Vogelcheck family. Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen as Mrs. and Mr. Vogelcheck and Bill Hader as Dwayne Vogelcheck are always ready to welcome their various guests into their home with over affectionate greetings. "We're Vogelcheck's." Here Mr. and Mrs. Vogelcheck welcome their son Austin and his girlfriend home for Christmas.

10. Porn Stars

"Hi! We aren't porn stars any more. I'm Breky and I'm [insert not a name], and we're not porn stars anymore." Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong are side-splitting hilarious in this sketch. As the mispronouncing former porn stars, Breky and her friend want to get free products by doing commercials. However, they never turn out completely right. In this one guest host Chris Hemsworth is Dong Juan De Dark Hole, helping Breky with trying to get Dolkey and Gobaba.

11. Two A-Holes

Jason Sudeikis and Kristin Wiig are the two A-Holes who are probably two of the most useless people. This hilarious sketch follows the two A-Holes through different scenarios. This one is a Live Nativity Scene.

12. Debbie Downer

There's nothing like bringing a happy event way down. Rachel Dratch is Debbie Downer, a women who no matter how happy the occasion finds a way to bring the whole party down with her talk of disease, natural disasters and medical issues. There's also nothing funnier than when the "SNL" cast breaks, and in Debbie Downer: Disney World, the entire cast, including Dratch herself.

13. Hanukkah Song

Due to the pure lack of Hanukkah songs, Adam Sandler brings this one into our lives on Weekend Update in 1994.

14. The Californians

"The Californians" is a soap opera revolved around getting around California. From their over the top valley girl voices to the insane "drama" that occurs and the always present group starring in the mirror, "The Californians" is a sketch to remember. Fred Armisen, Kristin Wiig, Bill Hader and Vanessa Bayer are always present in these sketches. Armisen as Stuart, Wiig as his wife Karina, Hader as Devon and Bayer as Rosie the maid.

15. Mary Katherine Gallagher

Molly Shannon is Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher. She always recites obscure monologues when she gets stuck and sometimes sticks her hands under her arms and smells her armpits when she's nervous. In one sketch, Mary Katherine Gallagher tries to prove her worth to join a gang,The Black Angels, and ends up performing a monologue from the made for TV movie "Long Island Lolita."

"Saturday Night Live" has been a staple in people's homes since 1975, and continues to bring joy and endless laughter to its audiences, both live and at home. These sketches, along with so many more, are just the legacy that the cast members leave. "LIVE FROM NEW YORK, IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
