20 Life Lessons, As Told By Gilmore Girls

With "Gilmore Girls" back and taking Netflix by storm, we are able to experience falling in love with the town of Stars Hallow all over again. The show touches upon the charm of a small town, falling in (and out of) love, the importance of every type of relationship in life, and so much more. Lorelai, Rory, and the other people of Stars Hallow have brought us everything from laughter to tears, but more importantly some very valuable life lessons. So, for those who have seen "Gilmore Girls" and for those who have not, I share twenty of the most important life lessons from "Gilmore Girls".

1. Sometimes what you're looking for is right in front of you.

Luke and Lorelai. Do I even need to say more? Lorelai spent so much time looking for love. She went through so many guys. From Max to Digger to Christopher (multiple times), and some other guys in between. The only man who was always there for her no matter what was Luke, and everyone knew that Luke and Lorelai belonged together except for Lorelai herself. So, what can we learn from this situation? Stop searching so hard for something you want or need, it may be right in front of your face and you just can't see it.

2. It is okay to wallow.

Sometimes life is hard and you should never feel like you need to bottle up your emotions. Sometimes the best cure for a rough day is staying in bed, crying, and eating a bunch of junk food.

3. Enjoy the little things in life.

Live in the moment and enjoy the little things.

4. You should NEVER go a day without coffee

5. Don’t live your life trying to please other people.

Lorelai got pregnant at 16 and decided to step away from her parents luxurious lifestyle. Rory loved reading books and chose them over parties and being popular. It doesn’t matter what other people think of you as long as you are happy and love the life your living.

6. No matter what, you can always come home.

When Rory moved away from home to go to Yale, she knew that when times got rough she could always just drive home. Home is where her heart is and it will always be that way. Never forget that no matter what happens, you can always go home.

7. The importance of relaxing on the weekend.

8. Some people just aren’t meant to be

As much as it sucks, sometimes things don’t work out the way you think they will with some people and that’s okay.

9. And sometimes you just have to move on

No matter how much it sucks you have to let the people go that you aren’t meant to be with and move on. But, in the end it will end up being for the best.

10. Live your life to the fullest

Take chances and live every day like there’s no tomorrow. You never know what the future holds.

11. Your mom is usually always right

If she doesn’t like the guy youre dating he is probably an asshole. Trust your mom, she knows whats best for you.

12. Its okay to not have everything in your life figured out

Trust me

13. You are going to make mistakes

What matters is that you learn from the mistakes you’ve made

14. Surround yourself with people who care about you

Don’t keep people in your life that could care less about keeping you in theirs.

15. Don’t forget to tell the people in your life that you’re thankful for them

16. When you find your Luke, don't let him go. He is one in a million.

17. Not everyone is going to like you….and that is okay.

18. Keeping a positive outlook on life is important.

19. Sleep is very important.

20. Your mom is and always will be your best friend.

I wouldn't trade the relationship I have with my mom for anything.

And even though these twenty lessons are definitely not the only lessons "Gilmore Girls" can teach, these are some of the most important lessons. Watching the show isn't just a way to pass the time, it can contribute thoughts and ideas into your everyday life. "Gilmore Girls" is a show that grows with you, as long as you let it. It's more than just a show.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
