My freshman year of college has finally come to an end. I have said my good-byes and moved back to my hometown. I have traded in my statistics book for suntan lotion and a bathing suit. As I spend my summer days getting some well deserved (and needed) R&R, I am reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of my first year in college. I am positive that other freshman will be able to relate, and that the next freshman class of 2020 will get some insight on tackling their first year.
1. Show school spirit.
2. Take naps when and wherever you can.
3. Don't expect to be best friends with your roommate.
If you are, great, but if not, don't sweat it.
4. Say no to the soda, extra serving of french fries and late night Ben & Jerry's.
5. College can be lonely, so join clubs and activities that interest you.
I know we have all heard this one million times, but it is 100 percent true.
6. Use the recreation center on campus.
You are paying for it in student fees, so take advantage of it.
7. You'll lose friends from high school that you thought would be in your life forever.
And that's OK.
8. Be safe when you go out at night.
9. Explore your college town.
There are always new and fun things to do.
10. You'll miss your parents... a lot.
11. Don't get overwhelmed by your syllabus on the first day of class.
12. Don't skip class.
You will be exponentially behind.
13. You'll become best friends with people that belonged to different "cliques" in high school than you.
14. It will be the most exciting time of your life thus far.
15. It is OK to make mistakes.
Just learn from them.
