15 Lessons I've Learned This Semester

Take time for yourself

It is hard for college kids especially, to save time for themselves. From school work, extra curricular's, friends, whatever you do, make sure to save a little time during the day to do something for yourself. This semester was especially hard for me, and I would be non-stop for days where I would be spending a lot of time with classes and schoolwork. After doing this for a long time, you will be run down. Go for a walk, watch an episode of your favorite show, read a non-academic book, remember to save at least a half hour a day doing something you enjoy

Go at your own pace

If you are taking classes with friends, don't get caught up with needing to keep up with them in work. I've learned over the years that I work at a slower pace than some people, and that's ok. As long as you are putting in the effort, and are happy with your work at the end, it doesn't matter who finished before who.

Don't forget to have a little fun

A little fun never killed anybody. On the weekends, I made sure to get as much homework done during the day so that I would be able to enjoy my night with my friends. It was a nice incentive because I knew that if I worked hard during the day, I would be able to reward myself at night. It was also nice because I didn't have a pile of homework waiting for me Sunday night.

Sometimes listening is the best thing to do

Social interaction is key

This may sound strange, but I could go hours on a busy day without talking to anyone. By the time dinner rolled around, all I wanted to do was talk to my friends. Remember to take time out of your day to talk to a friend, even a stranger.

Know your priorities

Do the most important things first

Working out is a good stress reliever

Over the years, I learned that working out is a great stress reliever. After a workout, you feel better and ready to take on the rest of the day

You don't have to work out every day

Take off days, let your body rest for a little.

Don't let a bad grade let you down

We all have our bad days, trust me I had plenty myself, this semester. One example is when I got a bad grade on an exam at the beginning of the semester. It wasn't because I didn't study, but it just wasn't my day. Come, the next exam, I got a 100. I pushed myself harder after receiving the low grade and didn't let it stop me.

Go on more adventures

Whether that's exploring different parts of the town, or going somewhere else, go to a place you've never been to.

Be comfortable in your own skin

Stay organized

Staying organized is key when you have a million things to do at once. Stay on track by making a chart of everything you have to get done so that you don't miss anything

Document the memories

It's always fun to go back through your photos and videos later to remember all the fun times you had over the semester

Don't give up

This semester I was in search of two internships. One for the summer, and one for the fall semester. Be prepared for rejection, but never give up. Something will come around soon enough

Always keep a smile on your face

You never know, it could change someone's day

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
