As the year is coming to an end, I thought it was time to reflect on how sophomore year of college has changed compared to freshmen. There were moments where I could believe how fast college was going, but its important to take the time to look around who you keep around and where you wanna go.
1. You cannot procrastinate as much as you did last year.
You will regret it if you do.
2. Meet new people.
Yes, you have your freshmen group of friends but do not isolate yourself from making new friends!
3. Watching all your Junior friends turn 21 and hitting the bars is rough.
Your time will come youngin'.
4. You must have a reasonable working resume.
Sure, presence is key at a job interview but also is a resume. When you start applying for real jobs over the summer or internships you will need a resume. Start working on it! If you need help, visit your school's Career Development Center.
5. Start looking at summer internships.
Summer of junior year is an important one. If you cannot find an internship, find a job!
6. Freshmen year was a BREEZE compared to this year.
It only gets harder.
7. You better get on the good side of the professors' in your major because you are bound to take another class with them or want a recommendation from them.
That study abroad program you want to get into? Requires two recommendations.
8. Waiting to join a sorority was a great decision.
It gave me time to get used to the work load and learn what schedule works best for me. Joining a sorority is a commitment and you need to make sure that you can balance both.
9. Boys are no less mature the second year.
10. They are actually worse.
And now you gotta worry about new freshmen boys too!! Yay!!!
11. You and your freshmen year roommate's relationship will change.
Whether you start hanging out with new people, get a time-consuming job, or workload becomes too much. Your relationship with your roommate might change and that is okay. You will always have a special bond with them because you shared so many firsts with them freshman year.
12. Do not take up more than you can chew.
Those 5 clubs you joined freshmen year will most likely not work with your sophomore year schedule. Stay committed to the clubs you feel you could grow in, take leadership positions in the future, and you feel good about.
13. Surround yourself with positive people.
College is hard enough with classes, tough professors, and pressuring parents. Stop being friends with those that only bring negativity.
