Spring Break: 16 Fun Ideas For Your Week Off

Let's face it, you should probably do more over break than just catch up on sleep.

1. Sure, get in that one day of Netflix.

You deserve it after those midterms. Movie-wise, I’d recommend Little Boy for something heartwarming, Revenge of the Bridesmaids for something fun, and The Best of Me for something romantic that, yes, is bound to make you cry.

2. But don’t focus too much on resting.

Spend some time searching around for the perfect workout routine for yourself. After all, summer will be here before we know it. I recommend the free app Sworkit from the app store. It has plenty of workout options depending on what you want to target, and it times you so you know how long to do each exercise!

3. Cook a little something for your fam whether you cook or not.

Pinterest always comes to the rescue when looking for those step by step recipes.

4. Here’s another idea involving food: catch up with someone you haven’t spent time with in a while by eating at your favorite place in town. Food guarantees the best bonding time.

5. For goodness sake, see your grandma!

It’ll mean the world to her, and there’s no doubt that old people get lonely. Keep her young and give her a visit.

6. Remember that errand you were supposed to run a month ago?

You should probably be the responsible college student you are and find time for that.

7. Get a haircut, because let’s be honest- it’s been a while.

If you want, take it a step further and invest in those pore strips or a face mask. We all need some sort of pampering every once in a while.

8. Go shopping!

That counts as productive, right? You at least owe it to yourself to get a couple new shirts and maybe even a new swimsuit.

9. Which leads us to the beach!

Despite the weather, just do what spring break is meant for and go to the beach! Tan if it’s warm, or bundle up and go for a walk if it’s cool.

10. Have a family movie night.

I’d recommend The Martian, but Disney’s Inside Out might be more fun to see if you have little siblings. Both are on Redbox!

11. Reunite with some old friends.

It's always nice to relive the good ol’ days.

12. Go somewhere you've never been before.

Get some friends together and just go somewhere, whether it’s simply a restaurant (YES FOOD) or somewhere like an amusement park (YES FUN). Adventure is out there, now go find it.

13. Pick up a short term job to earn a few extra bucks.

God knows you need it!

14. Get active.

Whether you’re athletic or not, find someone willing to either teach you their sport or spontaneously try one you’ve never tried before.

15. Take some of the focus off of yourself by volunteering.

Look for local or church opportunities. You'll be glad you did.

16. Search for summer internships and jobs.

Especially those that will benefit your career goals. Let's try to have productive summers, too!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
