14 Gifts We Never Thought We Would Ask For

Long gone are the days when toys were on our list.

14 Gifts We Never Thought We Would Ask For

We never thought we would ask for the gifts that are on our list this holiday season. I am not sure when my list transitioned from Disney toys to school supplies, or when I started getting more excited about shoes than dolls. However, we cannot ignore that at some point everything changed for us as we grew up. These are the gifts, that as kids, we never imagined we would put on our list.

1. Gift Cards

As a kid, we would have thought, "You mean... I actually have to go to the store and pick out what I want?" Now, this gift means endless opportunities at our favorite stores (or free food).

2. School Supplies

Somehow a book bag, planner and pens have made the list.

3. Money

An even worse gift than gift cards as a kid, an even better gift than gift cards as a college student. We will take all the funds we can get.

4. Room Décor

After staring at the same room all semester, it is time for some changes. Moving into a new apartment next year? It's never too early to start getting ready.

5. Clothes

Unwrapping a gift to see a clothing store's logo on the box used to be a disappointing feeling. Now, it is one less necessity to spend money on.

6. Technology

For completing schoolwork, not playing games.

7. Shoes

After trying to save money by wearing the shoes we already have, it seems they are falling apart. There is no choice but to ask for new ones.

8. Beauty Products

Unless it was a '90s-looking makeup set, we did not want it.

9. Socks

To replace all the socks the floor's laundry room has eaten this past semester.

10. Furniture and Appliances

When did receiving a Keurig become more exciting than receiving toys?

11. Travel Accessories

Studying abroad and traveling was, quite literally, a foreign subject as a kid. Now that it has become a reality, it's time for our own suitcases and passport holders.

Tangible gifts are cool and all, but it really comes down to...

12. A Promising New Year

2015 was filled with many ups and downs. Through the achievements and disappointments, we made it through. The holidays are a time for reflection and giving thanks for the past year, but we cannot help but to look forward to the year to come with the hope that it will be better.

13. Time With Family and Hometown Friends

After a long and hard semester away at school, the greatest gift is coming home to family and friend time. As a kid, living at home, we never thought about how this would feel.

14. Happiness

This happiness is spending the holidays with the ones we love, sleeping in our own bed or eating home-cooked meals. Although this was the norm as kids, it does not come so easy now. Happiness does not cost anything, and this is the greatest gift.

Happy holidays!

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
