You would think that all celebrities were born and raised in Hollywood, but there a fair few that grew up right here on Long Island.

1. The Baldwin family.

(From left to right: William, Stephen, Alec, Daniel)

You probably recognize Alec from his role on 30 Rock and multiple appearances on Saturday Night Live, and William from Gossip Girl, where he played the estranged father of the van der Woodsen siblings. The brothers grew up in Massapequa.

2. Mariah Carey.

This pop star is the only artist you hear consistently from Nov. 1 to Dec. 26, when “All I Want for Christmas Is You” seems to be the only song most radio stations know how to play. She was born in Huntington, and her trademark sass and diva antics have made her one of the funniest memes to date.

3. LL Cool J.

This rapper and actor was born in Bay Shore and now is a star on NCIS: Los Angeles as well as hosts Spike’s hit show Lip Sync Battle.

4. Billy Crystal.

While you might not recognize his face, you’ll definitely recognize his voice. The comedian, who, grew up in Long Beach, is the voice of Mike Wazowski from the Monters, Inc. franchise.

5. Billy Joel.

This Oyster Bay native is responsible for hits like “Piano Man”, “The Longest Time”, “Uptown Girl”, and “Big Shot.” Of course, it is argued that one of his biggest hits is “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

6. Lindsay Lohan.

You know her face from hit movies like Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, and you know her name from being attacked in the tabloids for the last few years. She grew up between Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor.

7. Howard Stern.

After growing up in Roosevelt, Howard Stern went on to host The Howard Stern show, the radio show he has hosted since 1979 that is notorious for its incongruous humor.

8. Jerry Seinfeld.

This stand-up comedian grew up in Massapequa before creating the cult hit Seinfeld. His later works include various cameos in shows like 30 Rock and Louie, and also lending his voice the bizarre children’s movie Bee Movie.

9. Steve Buscemi.

After graduating from Valley Stream High School in Nassau County, Buscemi went on to star in many hit films like Con-Air, The Big Lebowski, Reservoir Dogs, and the HBO show Boardwalk Empire. He also lent his voice to Monsters, Inc. in the character of Randall Boggs.

10. Kevin James.

Born in Mineola and raised in Stony Brook, comedian Kevin James has starred in the CBS comedy The King of Queens along with movies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown Ups, and Hitch.

11. Lori Loughlin.

Most famously known for her roles as Debbie Wilson on The CW’s 90210 and Rebecca Donaldson on ABC’s Full House, Lori Loughlin was born in Queens and grew up in Hauppauge.

12. Eddie Murphy

After growing up in Roosevelt, Eddie Murphy went on to be a cast member on Saturday Night Live as well as star in films like Dreamgirls and The Nutty Professor, and lend his voice to Disney’s Mulan and Dreamworks’ Shrek series.

13. Rosie O’Donnell.

Raised in Commack, Rosie O’Donnell hosted The Rosie O’Donnell Show from 1996 to 2002. She is notorious for her strong opinions on political policies but also for her outspoken activism for gay rights.

14. Idina Menzel.

The voice of Queen Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, Idina Menzel grew up in Syosset. She won a Tony Award for her performance as Elphaba in Wicked’s 2003 run on Broadway. She also starred in Rent and Enchanted.

15. Natalie Portman.

While growing up in Jericho, Natalie Portman attended high school on Long Island while simultaneously starring as Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequels. She went onto star in V for Vendetta, The Other Boleyn Girl, Black Swan, and the Thor films.

I don’t know what’s in the water around here, but we seem to be producing some pretty talented people. You're welcome, America.
