There are famous landmarks all over the world that are immediately recognizable. Some that come to mind right away are the Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Sydney Opera House. But there are even more, some with the same level of recognition, and some that are lesser known, such as landmarks that make you stand back and say “Wow, that’s amazing!”

1. Great Wall of China

Located not too far from Beijing, the Great Wall of China has many entry points to allow tourists the chance to walk along the wall, but the Mutianyu section is the most popular and is fully-restored.

2. Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat, a temple in Cambodia, is the largest religious structure in the world and so popular among tourists that it is featured on Cambodia’s flag.

3. Neuschwanstein Castle

This castle, located in Bavaria, Germany, served as the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland.

4. Uluru

Once known as Ayers Rock, this large rock formation, standing at almost 3,000 feet tall in the Australian Outback, has become a great road trip stop for Australians and tourists. Princess Diana has even climbed the rock!

5. Plitvice Lakes

This national park in Croatia offers visitors stunning views of beautiful lakes connected by pathways and waterfalls.

6. Stonehenge

This monument in the United Kingdom is believed to have been constructed as early as 3000 B.C.

7. Banff National Park

This park in the Rocky Mountains is Canada’s oldest national park and offers visitors a unique combination of snowy mountaintops and gorgeous lakes.

8. Colosseum

The Colosseum, or Coliseum, in Rome, is one of the most recognizable tourist attractions in Italy, and for a reason. It is amazing to see the ruins in the middle of a growing city and enter the space where gladiators once fought.

9. Christ the Redeemer

This statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and has become an iconic symbol for Brazil and Christianity.

10. Park Guell

Park Guell is often overlooked by Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, but the colors inside the park and the views from the park are absolutely breathtaking.

11. Machu Picchu

Though tourists typically cannot enter the ruins themselves, the views of the ruins and the mountains are more than enough to satisfy visitors.

12. Taj Mahal

This ivory white structure in Agra, India was commissioned by a Mughal emperor to house the tomb of his favorite wife.

13. Sheikh Zayed Mosque

This mosque, besides being one of the most beautiful of its kind, is the central place of worship for Muslims in Abu Dhabi and in the rest of the United Arab Emirates.

14. Sistine Chapel

Visitors actually are not allowed to take pictures of Michelangelo’s artwork on the ceiling of the chapel, but seeing the beautiful art in person is more than satisfying.

15. The Pyramids of Giza

This complex located close to Cairo, Egypt contains the three Great Pyramids, the Great Sphinx, and three smaller pyramids.
