15 Bible Verses For College Students

It's so easy to get caught up in college life. There is so much that goes on around us, and sometimes we aren't sure exactly how to deal with it. With Christ at our center, we can't fail. Here are 15 Bible verses to keep in mind throughout college.

“I am sure that what we are suffering now can’t compare with the glory that will be shown to us." -Romans 8:18

We face hardships so often. There are so many times we feel not smart enough or unworthy. We feel like it couldn't get worse. We feel like it will never get better. But what we are facing now could never compare to the joy that our Maker will soon show us.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:9

God doesn't suggest that we be strong and courageous. He doesn't say, "Hey, if you're feeling up to it today, maybe try being strong and courageous." No, he demands that we be strong and courageous. That we stand up for who we are. That we stand up for others. That we never lose sight of what and Who is most important. And that we never forget that He'll always be right by our sides.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” - Psalm 46:10

Good one. We get so caught up in life. There is never not something we have to do. Do we ever slow down to remember Who is really in charge? Do we slow down to remember Who knows better than we do? Be still and know.

“You must be doers of the word and not only hearers who mislead themselves.” - James 1:22

Be a light for someone else in a dark, dark world. Hear the word and do. Hear the word and put it into action. Hear the word and be a living example.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.” - Proverbs 31:30

Relationships are often created, lost, and nurtured during college. Whichever state you are in, remember what you want out of yourself and someone else. Girls, remember who you are. Remember the kind of woman that God made you, and never lose sight of yourself. Be content when you look in the mirror. And look for the same in someone else. Guys, remember who you are. Treat females the way they should be treated. Don't sell yourself short; find a God-fearing woman and keep her. Keep yourself, too.

“But Ruth replied, 'Don’t urge me to abandon you, to turn back from following after you. Where you go, I will go; and wherever you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.'” - Ruth 1:16

I think this verse speaks for itself. It's incredible.

“I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.” - Psalm 25:2

This verse reminds me to pray for my enemies, not just to want to "beat" them, or to "win out" over them. It is a reminder to be sympathetic, and to love your enemy because God loves them same way He loves you. It is a reminder to trust in him in all situations, even when we feel so incredibly helpless.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” - 2 Timothy 4:7

Be able to say this of yourself after anything you do. After a test, after a conversation with a friend, after a meeting, after studying all night, after anything. Be able to say that you have done all you could to honor your Lord. And even though we are human, and we'll never be able to be perfect, we can sure try.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” - Psalms 19:14

Speak words that are pleasing to Him. Think thoughts that are pleasing to Him. It's hard, I know, but it's crazy how much changing your thoughts and your words can make a huge change in your heart.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.” - John 1:5

This is my favorite verse, forever. We are living in a time where we can oftentimes list more darkness than light. That's disheartening. But in the darkest dark, the tiniest light will still make light. In the darkest world, in the darkest situation, when you feel so so dark, Jesus will always be your light.

“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8

That's it. He wants three things from you: act justly, love mercy, walk humbly with him. Act like in a way that would honor him, forgive and love and repeat, and walk alongside your Jesus.

“But the one who is greatest among you will be your servant.” - Matthew 23:11

This may seem irrelevant, but it might be the most important. You are in a place where not everyone knows the goodness of your Lord. You are obligated to tell the story of Jesus, and you can do this is so many ways. Sometimes, you don't even have to talk. Be God's servant on your campus and off. Be a helping hand or a study partner or a door-holder or anything that can help someone else.

“Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Matthew 6:34

God is so smart. How did He know we would worry about everything? This verse has so much truth to it and reminds us to take life one day at a time. He knows you're preparing for law school or the MCAT or you applied for that internship or that job you've always wanted. He knows you studied really hard for your Spanish exam. But slow down. Because unless that is a problem for today, for right now, God says to address it later. Of course, we should always keep our goals in mind, but there is nothing fruitful about worrying about tomorrow.

“I am with you now, I will protect you everywhere you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done everything that I have promised.” - Genesis 28:15

God has made promises He intends to keep. It's interesting how He says that He won't leave until He has done everything He has promised. Does that mean at some point in our life, He's going to say, "Well, kid ,it's been fun. I think you have it from here. Good luck!" No, of course not. He promises to always be with us, to always protect us, and most of all, to always love us. That means God doesn't go anywhere, ever.

“So that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.” - 2 Timothy 3:17

You are His, and He is yours. Don't ever forget that. And you can and will succeed, you can and will achieve because you have a God that loves you so much.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
