Honestly, I’m the world’s biggest procrastinator. It’s just laziness and it’s hard to motivate myself. I guess you could say I know the ins and outs of procrastinating. So here are my favorite ways to distract myself from the awful amount of work I always seem to have.
1. Watch Netflix or Hulu
You knew this was coming. Whether its binge-watching the latest season of Stranger Things or the newest sappy Christmas movie, these are an endless source of opportunity to get distracted.
2. Watch old Vines on Youtube
The vine compilations are never not funny. I could watch those videos for hours and not get bored. #ripvine you will be missed
3. Go to a bookstore
So, my sister and I have this thing with bookstores. We’ll go for minimum an hour and sit there reading the descriptions of different books, making a list of future books we’re gonna read. Is that weird?
4. Take Buzzfeed quizzes
These things get me. Every. Time. I could take an infinite amount of quizzes telling me “what city you’ll love” or choosing between the various celebrities named Chris for would you rather.
5. Work out
Whether it’s going on a run or booking a spin class, it’s a nice way to get your mind off of work and get in some exercise.
6. Learn all the lyrics to a new song
That way, you can impress all of your friends the next time it comes on the radio. Who doesn’t want to have all of the words to Bodak Yellow memorized?
7. Clean your room
I don’t know a time after when I first moved into my room it has ever actually been fully clean. Cleaning can also take a solid amount of time, sometimes it can even be cathartic.
8. Make a music video with your friends (or alone?)
Triller is hilarious. You could even do it on iMovie, I think. Either way, these always turn out to be really fun to make and even more fun to look back at later.
9. Shop online
Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, going onto a website and seeing all of the cute clothing and accessories they have isn’t a bad thing. Start on your Christmas list, birthday list, or wish list.
10. Watch cooking videos
All of those Instagram videos of how to make mozzarella stick onion rings and chicken parmesan lasagna are both satisfying to watch and give you great recipes to try out. Highly recommend, they're obsessive.
11. StumbleUpon
This used to be a really big thing back when I was in middle school. I just got back into it because you never know what you’re gonna find. Some of it’s really interesting and it’s all catered to your tastes.
12. Take a nap
For some reason, I take stress naps. So, when I’m really stressed and have a lot of work to do, my first instinct is to not deal with it and go to sleep instead. Not the best reaction, but at least I’m getting a lot of sleep.
13. Watch a TED Talk
Almost any video you click on is bound to be very interesting and informative. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a TED Talk I hated. Brush up on some of the latest people and topics making waves in the world.
14. Listen to a podcast
Interestingly enough, listening to podcasts is becoming really popular recently. There are really good ones about a variety of topics. I’ve heard recommendations for Serial, Stuff You Should Know, and This American Life.
15. Read Odyssey articles
Shameless plug. The articles on Odyssey are both interesting and relevant to the goings on in today’s world.
If you want to take your mind off the endless workload you have, take a break from grinding, or just don’t want to do any work at all, try one of these out!
