14 Winter Date Ideas

The winter months bring on awful days of freezing and dreary weather. It's a struggle to get out of your cozy bed to hike to class in the cold, snow, and ice. It's hard to keep up your motivation for anything when you're freezing and the sun goes down so early every day. But don't let winter time ruin the fun in your relationship. Cozy on up for some winter date ideas.

1. See a movie together.

It's awards season, so go see one or two of the films nominated for an Oscar. You get to keep warm while seeing a great movie and enjoying some delicious popcorn or candy. Who doesn't love movies on a cold day?

2. Or stay home and have a movie marathon.

Sometimes it's just too hard to leave the house in the winter. So snuggle up on the couch and watch some movies or a TV series together. My boyfriend and I binged on the "Harry Potter" films over winter break and it was one of the best parts of break.

3. Go to a hockey game.

Hockey is one of the best winter sports. It's exciting and entertaining, making it a perfect date idea. Support OU's hockey team (or your respective school) or make a day trip up to Columbus to watch the Blue Jackets. They even have a special deal for college students.

4. Go ice skating.

This is a cliché winter date activity, but it's still plenty of fun. Even if you're not that great of a skater, your partner will be there to (hopefully) pick you up when you fall. So grab your skates and get on the ice!

5. Cook a meal together.

Do you have a meal pinned on Pinterest that you've been dying to try out? Well, when it's too cold to go out to dinner, it's the perfect time to finally make it. It's also probably cheaper than dining out, which is a plus. Cooking together is a fun bonding activity.

6. Go on a walk.

If it's not too cold and you can handle the chill, take a walk around town. Campus is beautiful in the snow. And you can super cute pictures in the snow for Instagram.

7. Go to Strouds.

Strouds is freaking beautiful in the winter. You don't have to stay for long, but you will be blown away by the beauty of the park. The lake freezes over and it's a sight to see. If the weather is nice enough, hike the trails. Nature is neat.

8. Have a coffee date.

Support you local businesses by visiting local coffee shops. Try something new at every shop to keep it interesting. You and your partner can catch up, do homework, or read. Sometimes you just need a relaxing date.

9. Have a wine night.

Or a beer night if that suits you. Going uptown to the bars in the winter is sometimes just downright torturous. Dealing with the cold and ice is not fun. But staying home and getting tipsy with your bae is.

10. Game nights are fun too.

Gather some friends or other couples together and play some video or board games. A little competition is always refreshing. Have some drinks and some snacks and you'll be set. Cards Against Humanity is my personal favorite game.

11. Go to a concert.

Whether it's a local band or a famous musician, music is good for the soul. Even if the two of you just pick a random show to go to, you'll still have fun together.

12. Visit a local brewery.

Craft beer is delicious and very popular right now. Small local breweries are popping up everywhere. In a small town like Athens, we have three! Try something new together and get to know the people behind the businesses. They have some great stories.

13. Go bowling.

Bowling is a lot of fun and a great indoor activity to do on a date. It can also get pretty competitive, which makes it even more fun. Make a wager of some sort with your partner to make it even better.

14. Play in the snow.

This is a winter classic. Build a snowman, make snow angels, or have a snow ball fight with your boyfriend or girlfriend. When it gets too cold, come in for some hot chocolate.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
