First published in 1813, Jane Austin blessed the world with one of the most iconic romance novels in English literature, Pride & Prejudice. This story follows the musings of Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with several issues prominent in English society during the Regency era. Elizabeth Bennet is a character that every woman can relate to and her relationship with Mr. Darcy is not only goals but has also been portrayed in several forms of media for every generation to enjoy. This book has been one of my personal favorites since I was 9 or 10 and the 2005 movie adaption is truly a work of art. The following are some great quotes for everyone to enjoy and reminisce in if you have read the book or seen one of the movie adaptions, and if you are not familiar with this story I highly recommend looking into it.
"People themselves alter so much, that there is something new to be observed in them for ever."- Mr. Bingley
“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.” - Mary Bennet
“My good opinion once lost is lost forever.” - Elizabeth Bennet
“I have been a selfish being all my life, in practice, though not in principle.” - Mr. Darcy
"There is nothing so bad as parting with one's friends. One seems to forlorn without them."- Mrs. Bennet
"There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me." - Elizabeth Bennet
"Do not consider me now as an elegant female intending to plague you, but as a rational creature speaking the truth from her heart." Elizabeth Bennet
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library."- Caroline Bingley
“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” - Elizabeth Bennet
"What are men to rocks and mountains?" - Elizabeth Bennet
"To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love." - Jane Austen
“I am only resolved to act in that manner, which will, in my own opinion, constitute my happiness, without reference to you, or to any person so wholly unconnected with me.” - Elizabeth Bennet
“You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. - Mr. Dacy
Now this quote is not in the book itself, featured in the 2005 movie adaption instead, but I have to include it.
"You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on." - Mr. Darcy
