If you were in band at the same time as a sibling you understand the struggles and the joys. Though it could be annoying at times, it's one of the of the best memories you have with your sibling and it wad worth the struggles. I shared my senior year of marching band with my younger brother, Nick. It was one of the best experiences of my life to this date.
1. Sharing the same last name was a struggle
Your director would randomly call out your last name and you never knew if he/she was talking to you or your sibling. Many times you would call out "which one?" or you would just stand there confused.
2. You taught your sibling to march early
There was no way they were going to to rookie camp knowing nothing. You had to make sure he/she knew what they were doing, so they weren't clueless like you were.
3. You often embarrassed them
Many times I would yell "Whoo that's my brother!" whenever he was near me in drill. Though I know he hated it, I did it all out of love.
4. Matching band shirts
At times you would walk into the bathroom in the morning to find your sibling wearing the same band shirt as you. Often, you would make them change cause you were older. If you happened to embrace the matching shirts, you'd be asked if you planned it.
5. Everyone knew he/she was your sibling
You introduced him/her to everyone so they knew he/she was your sibling. Bonus points came if you guys looked a like.
6. You waited forever for them
Whether it was to go to rehearsal, to go home or for them to be ready for the game, it seemed like they took longer than needed to get ready.
7. You took your professional band pictures together
There's no way you could pass up the chance to get the nice picture that would be displayed everywhere together. This would be the photo that you will cherish for years to come.
8. There's also a picture of you together at every event
Literally every event. Whether it was the first game together, first parade, first contest, last contest, you had to get a picture with your sibling.
9. You also took silly pictures.
You couldn't help but pass up the opportunity to take a silly selfie together while in uniform.
10. You helped them put their uniform on for the first time
All those snaps and zippers are super confusing. You remember the struggle of trying to get the uniform on for the first time, so you taught them the quickest way to put it on.
11. You were incredibly proud of them
12. You miss being in band with them
For me, seeing my brother in band without me is strange. I miss marching with him and practicing together.
13. You're each other's number one fans
Whether you come to one of the high school contests or he/she comes to one of your games, you always cheer each other on. You might even own a band button with your sibling on it to show your pride.
14. You're now closer than ever
Band was something you guys had in common and spend time together doing. Due to that, you bonded. I wouldn't be as close as I am to my brother if it weren't for band and I am very thankful we did it together.
