14 Tips On Adulting In College
Anna Talcott

With college approaching within the next few weeks, here are some tips to help guide you through your transition into the first steps of adulthood: college. These are some tips that have developed from my experiences and trial runs through my freshman year of college. I find these tips useful and like to consider them problem fixers for any student.

1. Use a planner

You most definitely will be busy and will have tons of things going on at once so save some of that brain space and just write it down in an organized manor (maybe get a cute planner too).

2. Don't over commit yourself.

Given that there are so many clubs and sports to join, of course you want to try it all and I encourage getting involved, just don't spread yourself out too thin and keep in mind of your classes and study time.

3. Keep an open mind.

You are surrounded by so many different personalities, opinions, and cultures all day everyday so keep an open mind and learn about new perspectives and have mature adult conversations; you may learn something.

4. Track your grades.

Some of your professors may not post their grades on your school portal which then leaves you to exercise the knowledge of math you have gained over the years and figure it out yourself. Personally, I always have to know my grades it keeps me sane.

5. Exercise; Work out that stress, literally.

It is scientifically proven that exercise relieves stress and helps improve your memory (which is basically college).

6. Eat healthy.

Exercise and eating healthy go hand and hand.

7. Get enough sleep.

You will have those late night study sessions it just happens but in the end those only hurt you.

8.Get ahead, don't procrastinate.

People have been saying this since day one and honestly, especially in college, I have to agree.

9. Start making connections.

This is your time to create a network for yourself; sometimes it's all about who you know.

10. Stay positive.

Negative Nancy and Ned stayed at home when packing for college. Positive attitude equals positive experience.

11. Find a balance between work and play.

Work hard play hard doesn't work for everyone. Know your balance because it's different from everyone else's.

12. Keep your space clean.

A cluttered room equals a cluttered mind.

13. Do not do your homework or eat in your bed.

You do not want to trick your body into thinking it's time for some chips and dip when it's really time to catch some z's.

14. Finally, enjoy and appreciate the experience.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
