As an athlete, I have been forced to sit on the sideline more than enough times to realize that there are a few thoughts that run through an injured athlete's mind at least once during recovery. Of these thoughts, at least half occur in physical therapy and the other half occur on the sideline and in everyday life.
Here are some of my personal favorites that i have not only thought myself, but shared with other athletes as well:
1. Why? Why did this have to happen to me?
2. Don't worry guys, I'll keep score this game...and the next six after this one.
3. I hurt my right leg, I can still drive with my left.
4. *Approaches stairs with leg brace* Not today.
5. Well he [insert therapist name here] said that technically it's okay if I did this...
6. I just want to kick the ball once.
7. Okay, I can definitely do this with one leg.
8. What could possibly go wrong?
9. Alright, my surgeon said 6 months but I think I can be back in five...
10. That person has no idea how lucky they are to be able to run.
11. Since when is 10 minutes on the bike without resistance difficult?
12. Why I am so tired after ten heel raises?
13. I'm done, totally done.
14. I will get through this.
