14 Thoughts Every College Student Has During The Summer

In about a month, we will all be moving back in and resuming our lives at our colleges. We will be reunited with our best friends, our coaches, our home away from home. Summer is great. You get to hang out with old friends and take a break from your usual routine. As the summer is beginning to wind down, here are 14 thoughts every college student has during the summer.

1. Where did I put...?

Everyone talks about moving into college, but no one talks about moving everything out. I accumulated a lot throughout the year and had barely enough room to shove it into my car and get it home. It was a very disorganized process, and I still haven't totally unpacked.

2. I don't want to go to work, but I need the money.

Summer is supposed to be fun and full of traveling and adventure, right? Wrong. You need the money for all your Taco Bell runs and all the food bills you accumulate quickly.

3. Why did I think summer classes were a good idea...?

They sounded like a good idea in the spring, but now it's summer and you have to do actual homework. But just think about it; it's one less class you have to stress about in the fall or spring.

4. I wish my college friends lived closer.

It seems like all my best friends are at least a good hour away from me. Plus, we are all busy trying to make money so there's no time for that drive.

5. I'm going to miss my dogs when I go back.

They are going to another whopping eight months without me in the house again, and they don't even understand why. How can I do this too them again?

6. Why is it raining everyday? It's supposed to be summer!

This one is probably only applicable to the bipolar state of Ohio. We could really use some sun here.

7. Where did all this construction come from?

It seems like every other street corner and highway has bright traffic cones and lane closures.

8. I wonder how many shows on Netflix I can finish before I go back?

Netflix: "Are you still watching?"

9. Why is no one posting/tweeting anything?

Oh, that's because I was just on Instagram and Twitter 30 seconds ago...

10. I spend more money on food than anything else.

*Checks bank account* Wow I really need to stop eating out so much.

11. I can't believe I used to dread the end of summer.

Yes, summer is fun, but I can't wait to be back on campus with everyone.

12. What day is it?

But for real, what did I even do yesterday?

13. I've really missed my family.

It's so nice being able to catch up and spend time with family after being gone for over half of the year.

14. Is it time to go back yet??

I miss my home away from home and all my friends.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
