14 Things Understood By Elementary Teachers

In high school your teachers are helping prepare you for college. Endless Career Cruising activities, ACT/ SAT prep, the actual ACT/SAT, picking a college and lastly... dun dun duuuuuuun PICKING A MAJOR. There are so many options and the thought of picking the wrong one can be daunting. At the age of 17 or 18, we don't necessarily know what we want to do for the rest of our lives. We barely know what we are going to have for breakfast. How are we supposed to know what are lifelong career is going to be? If you decide on being an elementary major here are 14 things understood by elementary teachers.


1. "Why teaching? There are so many other better paying jobs. For example, doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc."

2. "Young children all day long? No, thank you."

It's better than having to work with snobby teenagers all day long.


3. "Good luck finding a job."

4. Paper work is always brought home. Chances are you are up late correcting papers or filing out paperwork about your students.

5. Summer breaks? Those don't exist.

6. You get to experience the positivity and enthusiasm from children everyday.

7. You love school and love being a learner.

8. Understanding the importance of education.

9. Progress is a gift.

10. Getting to see the light bulb moment, warms you heart.

11. You sometimes get to be a little kid again and experience life through the eyes of a 5 year old.

12. Patience is key.

Chances are they didn't hear you or understand what you said the first time, so the directions will be repeated multiple times.

13. Each subject holds a value of appreciation.

14. The foreground of education starts with you. Without teachers there wouldn't be artists, writers, sculptors, etc.
