Single? Here Are 14 Things To Do On Valentine's Day

Not all of us are so fortunate to have a significant other this Valentine's Day. Oh well! It's great if you do have that extra person to share the day with, buuuut it's not the end of the world if you don't. Here are some ideas on how to spend the day if you're single.

1. Treat yo'self!

Go do something you normally wouldn't do! Buy yourself something nice or buy yourself a treat!

2. Heart shaped pancakes.

You know those pancakes that your (my) mom used to make on Valentine's Day growing up? Make time in the morning and start your day off right!

3. Heart shaped cookies!

Same schtick as above. Cookies are always great. Pssst. Panera has some FIRE heart cookies rn if you're needing some help.

4. Watch your favorite movie(s)

We pretty much never need an excuse to watch our fav flicks but V-Day is a great excuse regardless! Pop the popcorn, grab a Coke and..... treat yo'self!

5. Valentine's Day cards

Remember back in 4th grade when V-Day cards were a HUGE deal. Bring 'em back! Surprise your friends, co-workers, family members, etc... and spread the love!

6. Something in public

People often have a hard time doing things "alone". I'm going to challenge that and say, "Go see that movie by yourself! Go to that event solo! Go eat at that awesome new restaurant you've been dying to go to!" Enjoy your time doing what you enjoy!

7. Travel somewhere

One of the best parts of being single is the freedom which accompanies. Go on a day trip to a national park, nearby city, etc... Get out there and explore!

8. Group night!

Have other single friends? Do something together! Movie nights are always great but maybe go out to eat together or see a show at your local theatre. Whatever you do, you do it together!

9. Be productive

While other people may be out, taking advantage of time to do things at home could be super helpful too! What better way to love yourself than to take care of your surroundings and things that need to be done!

10. Netflix

That show you've been putting off is waiting. That show you're SUPER behind on has missed you. Buckle up. Enjoy the ride.

11. Read a book!

I love the idea of reading but never get around to doing it. Maybe you're the same. Or maybe you're an avid reader! Take advantage of the night to TREAT YOSELF to a good book! Maybe some tea too?

12. Work on a project

Is there a project you want to do but haven't started yet or even one you've started and haven't finished? What better way to love yourself than to work towards a personal goal!

13. Get creative

This could be a project but it could also be professional or just for fun! Maybe you've got a new business endeavor or you love to paint! Pour a glass of wine and let the creative juices flow!

14. No matter what, love yourself.

Regardless of how to spend the day, make sure you remember to care for yourself. Single or not, it's crucial to be able to care for and provide for yourself. Be kind to yourself on Valentine's Day. No thoughts of "I'm not good enough", "being single sucks", etc.... You have ample advantages of being single. Be you. Love you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
