14 Things I Remember About Pinnacle
Pinnacle Charter School

It has been three years since Pinnacle Charter School at 115 Ash Street was closed in 2013. Many students, graduates, and parents from Pinnacle were disappointed, upset when the school had to close. So in honor of it being three years since the school closed, let's reminisce and look back at the memories we had at Pinnacle.

1. Uniforms

Blue shirts, Yellow shirts, khakis too! The uniform at PCS was very stylish, and flexible. Also the last uniform I remember allowing pants.

2. Field Day

Field Day was one of the greatest days in the year! With crazy themes like “Pizza Paloosa” and “The Michael Jackson Tribute”.

3. Pinnacle Pride Step Team

The basketball games and assemblies whenever the Step Team performed. Which inspired me to be apart of and be president of the SHA Drill Team! :)

4. Field Trips

Our field trips were always the best we did everything from the butterfly conservatory, Strong Museum, ice skating, boat ride on the Grand Lady, Beaver Island, heck we even went to the movies.

5. Sports

We had Bowling, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, and Track and Field. Our sports teams always knew how to go hard!

6. Show Choir

For those of you who graduated from PCS in 2012 and below you might remember Show Choir with Mrs. Marcella, and Mr. Pinchoff where we sang songs from High School Musical, Parent Trap, etc. Also we did dance routines to "Crank Dat Batman", "Shawty Get Loose", "2 Step", and many more! And there is yours truly standing at the mic. :)

7. Long Lasting Friendships

When at Pinnacle you made friendships that would last a lifetime, wheter you spent 4 years of high school with them, or did the same thing in college!

8. 8th Grade Graduation

For those of us who graduaed from Pinnacle, the 8th grade graduation was our big night to celebrate our acomplishments

9. Extended School Years

I remember that we were the only school that was open in July, which actually gave me something to do during the summer instead of me sitting around the house doing nothing.

10. Science Fair

The Science Fair was the night where you showed off your projects always having to use the phrase "What is the effect of_____, on _____?" Throwback to when I won the Sci in 6th grade (3rd Place), 7th (2nd Place).

11. Teachers Really Cared

The teachers at Pinnacle weren't just the typical teachers that just do their job for the money, they cared about their students, and seeing them reach higher.

12. Pie Day

Pie Day was obviously on March 14th. And not only did we eat pie, but if you scored a 3 or a 4 on any of the NY State Tests, you were able to throw a pie at one of your teachers!

13. School Events

I remember the fun school events Pinnacle would always have like Quizmania, Bake-O, Pinnacle Pride Night, Cultural Night, Math Night, Game Night, etc. Every event was always a blast!

14. Our Pinnacle Soldiers

Let us not forget the Pinnacle students we have lost during the past three years. Shmerea Nailor, Zaria Cook, JaQuan Sullivan, and William Inabiett.

Let's hear what some former PCS students have to say about PCS and their favorite memories:

"Mrs. Rotella, the real MVP"

-Temara Cross

"The Pinnacle Anthem"

-Karl Fanning

Mrs. Rotella will always rule!"

-Tamara Betton

"Mr. Shea was the most effective teacher and will always be my favorite."

-Dionna Turner

" Baby Think It Over Projects, giving us an idea of how babies are."

-Jada Moore

"The faculty and staff at Pinnacle always cared for us. They always had love and support for us, and wanted nothing more than to see us succeed."

-Terrika Pereira

"So many people had fake baby weddings by that rock wall. Field Day used to be lit!"

-Kiara Jackson

"Shoutout to Mrs. Koslowski for being the best math teacher, and Mr. Schwagler for being the best science teacher."

-Elizabeth Hansen

"Favorite teacher, Mr. Rossiter!"

-Dhakari Allen

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
