In my hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, there are many things to do. The Star City is home to many museums, bars and nightclubs, sports teams, shops, you almost never of things to do. Here are 14 things you can do the next time you're in Lincoln.

1. See a Husker game.

Memorial Stadium turns into Nebraska's 3rd largest city whenever there's a home game.

2. Go shopping at Gateway Mall or at South Pointe.

3. Take a tour of the Capitol building.

You'll learn about the Unicameral and if you go up to the observation deck on the 14th floor, you'll be able to see the entire city.

4. Celebrate Independence Day with the Uncle Sam Jam.

Head down to Oak Lake Park for festivities during the day. It all leads up to the fireworks show at 10 pm!

5. Go to the Farmers Market down in the Historic Haymarket.

Buy some organic honey and listen to the hustle and bustle of your local hipsters.

6. Run in the Lincoln Marathon.

Or if running is not your thing, cheer on the marathoners!

7. Go to Morrill Hall

The museum is home to dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, as well as collections of rocks, minerals, and ancient weaponry.

8. Go swimming at Star City Shores

The highlight of summer fun is swimming at Star City Shores. There's water slides, a zero-depth entry pool, and a giant dump bucket.

9. Catch a Stars game at the Ice Box

A Lincoln Stars hockey game is something you're sure to never forget. Catch all the action at the Ice Box located at the old State Fair grounds.

10. Visit Pioneers Park

Pioneers Park has 668 acres of prairie, wetlands, woodlands, and streams. There's so much to do! Visit the Nature Center or go on a hike. Catch a play at the Pinewood Bowl. Go sledding in the winter.

11. Visit the Sunken Gardens

The Sunken Gardens has over 30,000 flowers, and is redesigned every year for a different theme. The gardens are also a beautiful wedding venue!

12. See the stars at the Hyde Observatory

The Hyde Memorial Observatory is located on the south side of Holmes Lake. The observatory is staffed completely by volunteers and admission is free. Viewings are on Saturdays all year round.

13. Catch a drag show at The Alley


Are you 19 or older? Catch a drag show at The Alley, the best gay club in Lincoln! The inclusive atmosphere welcomes everyone of all genders and sexualties. Just make sure to bring money for tips!

14. Bike on the bike trails

Lincoln has over 131 miles of bike trails. Take the family for a bike ride and explore the city!
