Have you ever walked around campus listening to a very catchy song and wondered what is the meaning behind the lyrics? Well, I have. Most songs are very clear about the message they want to send; however, we just do not pay much attention to it. We just get caught up with the melody and forget about the rest.

Some other times, the meaning behind the song lyrics is hidden in metaphors, analogies, or rhymes, and it becomes somewhat hard to decipher. For these couple of reasons, I have decided to write this list to tell you about some of my favorite empowering song lyrics, and their interpretation is up to you.

These songs speak about the reality that we are facing these days. They really make you reflect, accept, and think about the things that should be done to move forward with society. Also, they remind you of the importance of self-love, the uniqueness that each and every one of us has, and how we can contribute to the world to make a change.

If you ever feel down, just remember this list and listen to one of these songs; you will not be disappointed. Most of these songs are very popular, while others are still undervalued.

1. Chained to the Rhythm: Katy Perry

2. Where is the love: Black Eye Peas

3. Believer: Imagine Dragons

4. Born this way: Lady Gaga

5. Scars to your beautiful: Alessia Cara

6. Voice: Rev Theory

7. Seasons: The Veer Union

8. Fighter: Cristina Aguilera

9. Counting Stars: One Republic

10. Praying: Kesha

11. Man in the mirror: Michael Jackson

12. Don't stop me now: Queen

13. Home: MGK, X Ambassadors and Bebe Rexha

14. Logical Song: Roger Hodgson

Just remember that every word you listen has its own meaning, and it is up to you the way it will impact your interpretation. So...next time listen carefully!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
