14 Songs That Define Summer '17
The Music Court

Summer is coming to an end and we're DREADING it. The music, however, is here to stay *thank god*. With that being said, here are 14 songs that SCREAM "Summer '17"!

1. "Despacito" - Luis Fonsi Ft. Justin Bieber & Daddy Yankee

Yes, of course, this is song numero uno. Bieber was chilling in a club one night and heard the original song which he loved. So much, in fact, that he wanted to record over it. Now it's a smash hit and suddenly everyone knows how to speak Spanish.

2."1-800-273-8255" - Logic ft. Alessia Cara & Khalid

Logic, with help, shows listeners that someone is always there to help. The song title is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and yet they never mention it. Instead, they show their inner struggles along with hope so that others can feel that, relate to the feeling, and use this help to their advantage. It's a very moving and inspirational song!

3. "Sign of the Times" - Harry Styles

Harry's first single as a solo artist is one for the books, for sure! This track is very moving and emotional, but still one that the fans love!

4. "Slow Hands" - Niall Horan

Still on the "post One Direction" train, we have good ol' Niall. This song seems like it's outside of his comfort zone, but in it at the same time.

5. "Now or Never" - Halsey

Halsey shows passion in love in a creepy, sort of adventurous twist. She still manages to keep up that charm and uniqueness that her fans love!

6. "Unforgettable" - French Montana ft Swae Lee

This is another one of those "I just want to dance" tracks. No one said that it's a bad thing, everyone likes dancing!

7. "Malibu" - Miley Cyrus

This is Miley's first hit since she decided to stray away from partying and smoking. We've missed you, Miley. Keep it up, girl!

8. "Praying" - Kesha

Keeping up with come back tracks, here we are. We've got Kesha (no more $) back in the game after her legal battle with Dr. Luke. This is probably the most moving song that she has released, and with everything that's been happening with her, it's understandable. She unleashes all of those emotions into this song and it's absolutely beautiful.

9. "There's Nothing Holding Me Back" - Shawn Mendes

We've loved Shawn from the start. This track gives us more reason to fangirl!

10. "Versace on the Floor" - Bruno Mars

Bruno features the one and only Zendaya to star in his video. Not like the song wasn't great enough as is, right? Zendaya sure can jam out to Bruno which, in a way, is somewhat refreshing.

11. "Crying in the Club" - Camila Cabello

Camila shows her listeners that breakups aren't the end of the world. She is successful in showing what the struggle is like in the video. She incorporates a segment of her song "I Have Questions" as an intro to the video to show the pain you first feel. This is followed by "Crying in the Club" to show movement away from the heartbreak. It's quite moving!

12. "New Rules" - Dua Lipa

Ladies, this one is for you! Dua Lipa is here to teach us how to get over an ex with only 3 rules to follow. If you're going through a tough breakup, you need this song. If not, you can still jam out!! Either way, this one will be stuck in your head for a while.

13. "Killing Spree" - Logic ft Ansel Elgort

Ansel makes this track with his vocals. His voice is shocking and suprising, but also very calming!

14. "Feels" - Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean

Quite the unexpected grouping, but it works so well! This song provides the perfect bass line for a summer jam. Not to mention that when you get such an epic collaboration (along with the return of our favorite "Happy" guy, sadly no giant hat) the song is destined to be a hit!

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
