Fourteen Songs To Revive Your Former Emo Self
Bustle

This past week, many former emo/scene kids had their hearts lifted and then smashed to death again by My Chemical Romance. Out of nowhere, the band released a teaser video that caused a lot of fans to think they were reuniting in some capacity, and effectively created an uproar within the emo community. However, the next day, MCR released a statement that, while they were deeply touched by their fans' excitement, no such reunion would happen. It was devastating, crushing. We were all tragically misunderstood again. Taking the fresh angst we all feel into consideration, I decided we needed a blast from our heavy eye-lined pasts to sooth us. So, here is a list of songs for your aching emo heart to remind you just how good 2005-2009 was.

1. "Scars" by Papa Roach

We all screamed that song every time it came on the radio, and you all know it. Papa Roach understood our misunderstood selves, man.

2. "Misery Business" by Paramore

While many of us were super envious of Hayley Williams's hair, we also loved (and still love) this song. But seriously, I still want her hair.

3. "Numb" by Linkin Park

Alright, if Papa Roach's song helped your misunderstood, teenage self, then this song definitely did. You were numb right along with Chester Bennington. You felt him, man.

4. "Vindicated" by Dashboard Confessional

"I am flawed but I am cleaning up so well/I am seeing in me now the thing you swore you saw yourself" Do I even need to explain this line? You understand. Your emo self will never forget this line.

5. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by Panic! At The Disco

If you went to a wedding in 2005, it was probably hard for you not to scream "What a beautiful wedding!" while you were there. Also, this song's music video made us all want to wear circus clothes and paint our faces.

6. "Dance Floor Anthem" by Good Charlotte

I recently saw Good Charlotte in concert and when they played this song, I screamed its lyrics so loud. You don't wanna be in love, man.

7. "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" by Fall Out Boy

You most likely still don't correctly know all the lyrics to this song but who cares? We had Patrick's trucker hat and Pete's eyeliner and that weird half-deer guy in the music video. That's all we need.

8. "I Miss You" by Blink-182

Heartbreak? Loss? General sadness? This was the song you listened to. And of course, you loved it even more because of the Nightmare Before Christmas reference.

9. "Check Yes Juliet" by We The Kings

This was all of our jams in middle school. You definitely wanted that special someone to toss rocks at your window. No one was gonna tear you apart because you didn't give them the chance.

10. "Dance, Dance" by Fall Out Boy

To be honest, I also don't know if whenever I sing along with this song, I'm singing the correct words, but who cares because this song is so good. I can hear the drumbeat in my head now and I just wanna dance.

11. "Dear Maria, Count Me In" by All Time Low

Ugh, such a good song man. The epitome of summer emo jams as I sweated in all of my black clothes.

12. "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard

Going to the beach in 2005? You probably blasted this the whole way there. One time I went to the beach and found a street actually named Ocean Avenue and my little emo heart was so happy.

13. "Dark Blue" by Jack's Mannequin

"Have you ever been alone in a crowded room?" Yes, yes we have.

14. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day

You walked alone with only your shadow beside you and Billie Joe got that. Also you probably envied his eyeliner game hardcore.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
