The University of Dayton is full of secrets and surprises. Even after being here for a full year I am still learning about things I didn't even know existed. You'll probably notice most of them are about food, bathrooms and campus ministry. Honestly, these are the most important things to know about campus.

1. The fro-yo in Marycrest

You heard me right. Marycrest has fro-yo. Fro-yo. It alternates between two different flavors and is located in the breakfast nook. It is behind the waffle machine and next to the Cheerios. I seriously suggest checking it out.

2. The views from the 7th-floor bathrooms in the library

There are windows that look out over campus in both the guys and girls bathroom which provide you with some amazing views of campus. Also, these bathrooms are basically always empty which rocks.

3. The echo spot in front of the chapel

They tell you this on a lot of tours, but most people seem to forget it. If you stand in the middle of the brick circle thing in front of the chapel and start talking you will hear your voice echo. It's super cool and everyone always thinks it isn't true until they try it.

4. Nancy will memorize your name and know you for the rest of your time at UD.

Nancy is a bro. She literally will learn your name and remember fun facts about you. She has nicknamed my friend group the fro-yo queens.

5. They don't actually charge you for extra butter in the dining hall.

You know how it says when you grab an extra butter or jelly that it is going to cost you 75 cents? Well it doesn't. They never charge you. Get as much butter and jelly as you want.

6. The fancy bathrooms on the second floor of KU

On the second floor of KU the girl's bathroom by the ballroom is super fancy. It has couches, curtains and full body mirrors. I've been told that it is because when people get married here the bride needs a place to get ready. Whatever the case it's a pretty cool place.

7. Jen, the campus minister in Marycrest, always has candy in her office.

She has so much candy. So much. If you ever pop by her office, which is on the second floor of Marycrest across from the chapel, she'll give you a piece of candy. She is super nice and fun to talk to and loves when people come by to visit.

8. GA Joe's picture is in the Commitment to Community.

If you don't know who GA Joe is you are missing out on life. He is the grad assistant and campus minister in VWK. He also came to UD for his undergrad and is featured in the C2C alongside BT. You're welcome.

9. We get HBO go for free.

If you've ever wanted to watch "Game of Thrones," now's your time. Sign up and start watching today.

10. You can play the piano in the residence hall chapels whenever you want as long as no one is in there.

One of the worst parts about college is that you can't sing whenever you want to without people hearing you. Problem solved. You can go chill in your residence hall's chapel and jam out to your own music whenever you want.

11. Some of the bathrooms in St Joe's, Alumni and Fitz have special hand soap or lotion.

This is one of the most exciting things ever. You can literally walk into these bathrooms and find Bath & Body Works scented soap and lotion just chilling on the counter. It's a big upgrade from the boring soap in the communal bathrooms.

12. Marianist brothers actually live on Keifaber and Stonemill.

Crazy, I know. But there is actually a community of brothers that lives in these two houses. That's right. They see all.

13. RA's know which room set of the fire alarm.

They know who caused the fire alarm to go off. If it was you they WILL be checking your dorm room. You've been warned.

14. Only the PC prints double sided in the Honors printing room.

Pro tip right here. Since we have to provide our own paper now it is very cost effective to use the PC. The Mac only prints on one side of the page wasting your paper and your money. If you can, shoot for the PC.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
