So, last week I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a report about a few missing black girls in Washington D.C. Now, something told me to be concerned, but that day when I looked at CNN news and other news broadcasting sources, I saw nothing. But then a couple days later I heard about a few more black girls and Latinas. That’s when I started to get worried. So that’s when I did my research, and I was disgusted at what I found out. There have been more than 14 black and Latina girls missing in Washington D.C. in the last couple of days. But you know what makes me angrier about this situation? That the media is not showing that much coverage on it.

It’s crazy that I had to find out something like this on social media before it is even brought to the news. In order for this story to gain the proper “attention” of news sources, it had to take the outrage of the families of the missing girls for news sources to take this in a serious matter. My friend and I were talking about it yesterday. We were saying how crazy this was and wondering who would actually go and kidnap these young black girls. Then my friend brought up a great point. He said that he thinks that if these girls were white, then the media would take this matter more seriously. Now, at first I didn’t pay that comment no mind, but when I actually sat down and thought about it, I realized he might have had a point.

When it comes to situations dealing with white people, the media treats it as a drastic measure that needs to be addressed to the public. Which it should be. But when it comes to minorities, it does pick up some attention, but not on the same level. If this was a white girl that was missing, then all of the authorities would be involved in making sure that girl was found. But with the missing black and Latina girls, we didn’t even get an amber alert for any of them.

Look, I’m not here to preach or anything. I just want people to think about it just in case an incident like this was to happen again. But for now, let’s all just pray that those girls are found safely and get back home to their families. They’ll be in my prayers. Peace.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
