Everyone loves free things, so why not check out free, downloadable games? If you are an avid gamer, or just want something to procrastinate with, take a peek at these 14 recommendations.
1. Not Pacman
Imagine playing a game of Pacman where you don't control Pacman and the ghosts don't chase you. Sounds boring, right? Not Pacman is just that, but instead of controlling that "pizza missing a slice," you turn the maze for Pacman to roll around. Be careful, though, the ghosts still tend to gravitate toward your character.
2. Not Tetris
Not Tetris and, more specifically, Not Tetris 2, are both variations on the worldwide hit Tetris. Like Not Pacman, Not Tetris conforms to its own rules. When you rotate the pieces, they spin instead of turning the static 90 degrees. While confusing at first, you can eventually figure out how everything works together and beat my high score of 6401 points.
3. Mari0
Mari0 is a crossover between Super Mario Brothers and Portal. There are both the original eight worlds and many more original levels.
4. Arena
Skyrim is a fun game, but did you know that the first in its series is being distributed for free by Bethesda? Originally released in 1994, Arena was a game that paved the way for many games that followed. It is an old title, and a DOS emulator is required to play.
5. Daggerfall
If you cannot enjoy the first Elder Scrolls game, the second one is also free from the publisher. It is the same style as it's predecessor, but also more refined and less monotonous.
6. Where's my hammer
You get to destroy stuff. No story, no motivation, just you with a hammer.
7. Timeframe
While not exactly a game, this interactive piece of art deserves to be on this list. It is 10 seconds slowed to 10 minutes and can really change your perspective on how you should spend your life.
8. ClusterTruck Beta
ClusterTruck is a parkour game that is still in beta, but the developer has decided to make it an open beta for people to check out the game, give suggestions and report bugs. The game is currently planned for a September 2016 release, but until then, have fun testing!
9. Dwarf Fortress
This game is not for everyone. That being said, if you enjoy micromanaging dwarves and making sure they all survive for centuries, this game is for you! It is very simple and many mods have been created to change the visual style from the icons to the sprites.
10. Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch
First-person Megaman is a fantastic idea for a party game. If you don't have friends, you can play through all 10 chapters in the story mode.
11. Super Smash Land
If Super Smash Bros. was released on the Gameboy, it would probably end up like this. It has six playable characters and 11 different stages, but it can be used for hours of fun.
12. Team Fortress 2
This class based first-person shooter is all about teamwork, hence the name. Although almost 10 years old, this game has an ever-thriving playerbase. You can either do some research on each of the classes, or you can jump right in and figure it out as you go along!
13. Fistful of Frags
If Call of Duty took place in the wild west, it would be Fistful of Frags. There is a lot more strategy involved in this game than other first-person shooters because when you need to reload, it can take a lot longer because this takes place in a time when ammo had to be inserted one by one.
14. Mienfield.com
If you don't want to download these 13 games, I've added a special one just for you! Minefield is a huge game of minesweeper that can absorb a person for hours on end. The field is so large that no matter how long you play, you will still not complete the game!
