I am not going to lie. I love to read. Ever since I was a baby, my mom has been reading to me. I remember laying in bed and being lost in the stories. I really believe that it helped my imagination so much. The enjoyment was something so different from watching a movie -- I could imagine anything I wanted with the information I was given. My brain was given permission to dream and run wild.

I did go through a phase that the least of my interest was reading. I thought I wasn't good and didn't really understand. What I really discovered was that the more I read, the more I could understand, as well as how it got easier.

To this day, I have been in a huge kick of reading books on various topics to learn more, grow more, and enjoy more. So here are the throwbacks of what started it all!

14 of My Favorite Childhood Books

1. If You Give A Pig A Pancake

You can almost smell the pancakes when you read this book. Nothing is cuter than this pig AND the amazing illustrations!

2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Everyone loves a good Eric Carle book. There is something about the different sized pages and holes that make you feel as if you are a very hungry caterpillar too.

3. Where The Wild Things Are

There was always something about this book that scared me... than I saw the movie and it made it worse. Yet still, an intriguing classic.

4. A Bad Case Of The Stripes

The strangeness of this book somehow made my eyes and ears hooked every time someone opened it.

5. No, David!

Something about a boy named David being naughty, that makes it the funniest book of all time.

6. So Many Bunnies

I don't know if it was the board book format, or the fact that this bunny had 26 bunnies and named all of them alphabetically that made my young mind so impressed.

7. The Rainbow Fish

Back in my day (lol) there was something about fish that captured young kids attention. This book was no exception. It taught me how to share, be a friend and be special.

8. All My Myself

The only reason I ever read so many Mercy Mayer books was to see how fast I really was at finding the hidden little mouse.

9. Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon

This book showed how cool it is to be weird and awkward. I love it for that.

10. The Kissing Hand

It is crazy how sentimental a momma and a baby raccoon can make you.

11. Scrambled States Of America

This book taught about all the states... and just how awesome each one is.

12. The Jolly Christmas Postman

The creativity in this book had me captured as a child. I opened every letter in this like I was receiving it myself.

13. Junie B. Jones

"My name is Julie B. Jones. The B stands for Beatrice. Except I don't like Beatrice. I just like B and that's all." - Best beginning to any story.

14. The Giving Tree

What kind of a person would I be without going through the motions with the Giving Tree?

Thanks everyone for looking back with me on some of my favorite childhood books. Maybe now is the time to get back into reading... Childrens books can be pretty calming in this stressful world. Give it a try!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
