If you are planning on living on campus this year, you may be overwhelmed with the long list of items to bring with you to college. You can find these lists just about anywhere on the Internet, but not one of them tells you what is listed here. There are things that you simply would never think about bringing, but will desperately need in the weeks to come. Here are just a few of them:

1. Poster Boards or Tri-Folds

Lets face it, you will be doing more presentations than you are comfortable with and poster boards will be your go-to for these. Tri-folds will be your resort for those huge projects in the near future. Keep at least one of these stocked nearby at all times.

2. Netflix Subscription

Cable on campus is not like that at home. You are limited to the number of choices and channels, plus you may be sharing the television with a roommate or two. Netflix has hundreds of previously aired seasons and popular movies, even the classics. Plus, you can watch this on your computer, iPad and iPhone. Netflix will become your go to friend throughout your college years.

3. Body Pillow

I cannot tell you how many times that I wrapped my legs and arms around this while laying in bed. It will replace that long distance boyfriend/girlfriend or create a new one. It basically is the most comfortable cuddle buddy.

4. A Box of Gum

Gum is your friend when you are rushing out the door to class, talking to that cute boy or girl next to you in class, or even having food cravings.

5. A Huge Bottle of Hand Sanitizer

If you didn't already know, college kids are gross and so are the bathrooms.

6. More Fans Than You Think You Will Need

Purchase every type of fan including a desk fan, box fan, tower fan and bed clip fan. Bring them all. You will thank me later.

7. A Keyboard Protector

You will be eating and drinking around your laptop even if mom tells you not to. College kids thrive off of food and your laptop is always by your side. Keyboard protectors are dirt cheap on Amazon and will save you thousands.

8. Food. Lots of it.

As I said above, food goes hand in hand with college students. You will think you'll take advantage of that amazing cafeteria food (LOL), but you won't. Keep it nearby at all times. My favorite college snack was granola bars which are super easy to carry where ever you go.

9. A Hammock

Hammocks seem to be a new trend and I have seen lots of people hanging out on them throughout campus. Although I didn't bring one my first year, I may have to bring it along this year. I'll admit, it's pretty relaxing and don't worry, no one judges you in college.

10. A Pantry of Baking Essentials

You will find unique recipes on Pinterest and you'll want to tackle that cupcake in a mug. Unfortunately, it needs more than college student tears, which requires you to bring sugar, flour, oil, etc.

11. Boxes of Tissues

Bring the travel size as well. As I said above, college makes you cry and no one will judge you. They serve for a lot of purposes in college.

12. Thank You Cards

I had to do a few interviews throughout my first year and sending out thank you cards afterwards will make you look fancy. Plus, it's the polite thing to do. You can get these for cheap in the dollar section at Target.

13. Air Freshener

College kids stink and so do the rooms.

14. A Back-Up Toothbrush

If you drop your toothbrush anywhere in a college dorm building, the 10 second rule does not apply.

As I said before, you won't find a lot of these on the usual college packing lists. Just bring these with you whether you think you will use them or not, because you will. One college student to another, "good luck." These essentials will for sure help along the journey.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
