Youtuber Updates @ Twitter

Long ago, I was about eight-years-old when I came across a website that would figuratively change my life: YouTube. Sparking an early passion for creative projects that probably would have only started now, I've seen plenty of entertainers cross the thresholds of YouTube stardom, and by now, I'm pretty certain I can be considered a YouTube connoisseur.

Many YouTubers of today have managed to continuously bring a fresh new outlook on their channel's creativity every year: coming up with new characters, new projects, new career paths, new passions or making movies. With the dawn of a new year just around the corner, now's the time to refresh your subscriptions and add in a few new (and old) faces to your feed!

1. Grace Helbig

Basically one of my spirit animals, Grace Helbig is a brilliant comedian. A few years ago, she had to switch channels due to a contract termination, and in just a few weeks she had gained back the majority of her fanbase — which is close to three million! She had her own comedy show on E! and she's hosted a variety of award shows, guested on late night talk shows and has written two books. Grace is a delightful and hilarious YouTuber and is totally relatable to young adults.

2. Hannah Hart

Famous for her "My Drunk Kitchen" (MDK) series, Hannah Hart is another hilarious female comedian on YouTube. Her biggest series, MDK, is binge-worthy and she'll leave you laughing for ages at the sheer amount of puns she comes up with (a ton)!

3. Mamrie Hart

Mamrie Hart is a hilarious female YouTuber who is famous for her "You Deserve a Drink" series, where she creates a drink based on whatever (or whoever) is popular at the time. Ripe with puns and quirky jokes, Mamrie is one of the funniest comedians on the website. Also, her dog, Beanz Hart, is an absolutely adorable diva.

4. The Holy Trinity

While they don't have a YouTube channel (yet), the "Holy Trinity" is the combination of the three YouTubers above: Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart. They've created tons of content together including hilarious holiday videos (like a pumpkin decorating contest) that are hidden gems among each of their channels and have even made a movie together "Camp Takota," which is available on Netflix! They are currently working on another new, undoubtedly funny, movie "Dirty Thirty."

5. Shaytards

With one of the longest-running channels that still ranks high on their amount of subscribers, the Shaytards are a large family who films vlogs every other day. Seeing their five children grow up on camera has been absolutely heartwarming and they're excellent at making their viewers feel apart of their family. The kids and their antics are absolutely adorable, too!

6. Hello Katy

Katy is one of YouTube's esteemed beauty gurus who posts make-up and fashion videos on the regular. However, recently, she's started to post 'advice' and random talk videos, which give an insight on her incredible mind and how wise she is, even for her age (she's only 20)! Better yet, she's in college and frequently gives tips and posts vlogs about her life in college and her life with her sorority.

7. Megan Batoon

A dance extraordinaire, Megan Batoon's dance videos are mesmerizing (goals, much?). She also puts out vlogs, which give insight on her incredibly busy life as a YouTuber, and she also produces comedy videos on top of it all! She's super funny and quirky to watch, and is sure to be a refresher on your feed!

8. Elliott Morgan

Elliott Morgan is another comedian on YouTube who has branched out into the world of stand up. His humor is very quick, witty and smart, so be prepared to have those 'aha!' moments and laugh about it for a while!

9. Anna Akana

Undoubtedly one of my favorite YouTubers, Anna Akana is one of the most creative minds on the site. Her videos are brilliantly edited and filmed, and her humor is just right! She also produces beautiful and haunting short films (her goal last year was to create twelve films in the span of the year — while she didn't quite reach it, she still put out a good many, which were definitely all of high quality)! She's also a crazy cat lady, which is always a plus!

10. Alli Speed

Alli Speed is another daily vlogger, who frequently travels and documents her busy lifestyle. Her channel has a mix of vlogs and advice/talk videos, where she's either answering questions, reviewing products she's bought and anything in between! While her channel schedule is somewhat scattered, she's a treasured YouTuber of the community and she's absolutely relatable. Also, her dog, Chico, is totally adorable!

11. Tom Fletcher

A famous British musician, Tom Fletcher is not only a member of McFly, but also a creative and witty YouTuber! Have you seen the video of his wedding speech? Or how creative his wife and him announce and film her pregnancies? Or perhaps the adorable video that circled around social media a few years ago with him and his son in the dandelion field? Seeing into his life is really interesting, with him being an actual, huge celebrity in Britain, but also reminds you that they have a life of their own — which is close to our own!

12. Orion Carloto

Orion is a relatively new, underrated YouTuber who actively promotes feminism and body acceptance — her videos are always super positive and uplifting and just shows how wise she is! I'm always left feeling empowered and motivated after watching her videos, and she's also super relatable as she understands and is going through the same issues we are as young adults!

13. Community Channel

Natalie is absolutely hilarious and there's no denying that she's one of the hidden gems on YouTube. Her videos are always skits of socially awkward situations where she makes them funny and basically speaks what we all think during those times. Her humor is so clever and she's definitely one of the funniest people on YouTube. Her videos are also binge-worthy, and you will want to watch more than one so be warned!

Refresh your subscriptions with a few of the YouTubers mentioned here and enjoy! And have a super happy New Year!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
