Sometimes you wake up and feel off, sometimes you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, and sometimes you don’t want to wake up at all. But if you try to find the positive in every day, your day can be a little brighter. Here are 13 things to do that will make each and every day worth getting up for.

1. Smile… at everyone

You would be surprised how long a smile can go. You never know what kind of day someone is having, so by simply smiling at someone you could alter their whole day. And there is even some science behind smiling that suggests smiling truly does make you happier. So next time you are walking to class, grabbing coffee, or simply working on a paper at the library -- smile. Trust me, you'll be happier for it.

2. Tell someone you love, that you love them

This may silly, but telling your loved ones you love them is important. Life is short and never think, "They know I do, I don't have to tell them." You should still let your mother, father, brother, sister, partner know that you care for them. It makes you feel connected with someone and makes them feel great, too.

3. Drink water… a lot of it.

This is more of a physical aspect, but it can make you feel so great. Drinking water makes you healthy and happy. When you feel better and are healthy on the inside, it makes your mental health better. Happy body, happy mind.

4. Take 10 minutes every morning just for yourself

This is something that can set the tone of your whole day and is really important. You never know if you will have much time to yourself during the day, so taking 10 minutes to just relax, breathe and have to your thoughts is vital to your happiness.

5. Wear something that makes you feel confident

Wearing your favorite pair of shoes, pants, the new shirt you just bought, or anything that makes you happy can keep you smiling all day. If you feel confident and happy, others will see that and respond to that. So throw on your new H&M long-sleeved tee and head to class!

6. Do something that makes you happy

This can be as simple as getting a latte from Starbucks, having a piece of chocolate after dinner or making time to watch an episode of "House of Cards" before bed. Just doing something that makes you happy as an individual.

7. Help someone who looks a little lost

I have notice recently that simply stopping and helping someone who needs directions, helping someone if they drop stuff, or just being a friendly neighbor can make you so happy.

8. Connect with nature, even if it’s just on your lunch break

Getting some sun and fresh air is necessary for your health. Even if you just sit outside on your coffee or lunch break, or go on a hike on a Sunday afternoon -- connecting with nature can make you feel happy and healthy. It can be a nice break from the real world.

9. Be active, just for a couple minutes

This can be just stretching at your desk, doing leg exercises while you watch T.V. Devoting a little bit of time each day to get your heart rate up makes you healthy and gives you a mental break. It is good for de-stressing, and also energy. Whether you go to the gym for two hours or 20 minutes, the fact that you went is what matters.

10. Listen to your favorite song, or if it's sad -- a happy song.

Music is known to evoke emotions of all kinds. The beat, the lyrics, or just the voice of the artist can make you feel a certain way. Listening to a happy, upbeat song, or one that makes you smile can make you happier.

11. Do something different.

Routine gets boring. Get up, go to class, do homework, go to bed. You have to do something each day to mix things up. Whether you just get lunch somewhere new, try a new drink at Starbucks, take a different route to class, or study somewhere new -- variety is good!

12. Find the joy in the small things

This is what will make your days so bright. Finding the joy in a simple conversation, video on YouTube, a class cancellation is what makes getting up so worth it. You never know what the day is going to hold, but I promise you -- there will be something worth smiling about.

13. Breathe and be grateful for this life

We all only get to do this life once. So live every day knowing that you only get to do that single day once, and there will never be another day just like it. How amazing is it that you get to experience things every single day? Be grateful for this life and get out of bed and celebrate it.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
