No matter how hard you work to prevent it, winter always seems to make you drag. It's easy to feel sluggish and lazy as you want to avoid the cold outside. But don't let the cold months get you down! Here are 13 ways to make winter feel a little less bitter:

1. Go out and do something fun.

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you should wrap yourself in a blanket cocoon and never leave the house. There's plenty of fun things to go do during the winter. Visit a museum; try a new coffee shop; go to the movies; go bowling. Keep your spirits up.

2. Dress for the weather.

When you go out, make sure you'll be warm. There's nothing worse than being stuck outside (for any amount of time) painfully cold because you couldn't find your winter gear or decided to leave it behind in favor of looking cute. Bundle up.

3. Redecorate.

Sunlight won't brighten up your room, so you'll have to do it yourself. Change is a good thing.

4. Find new music to listen to.

Finding new songs, albums, or artists that you vibe with is rejuvenating.

5. Exercise.

You're probably far less active during the winter than any other time of the year. Don't let yourself get too behind.

6. Take good care of your pets.

They need to stay warm and active just as much as you do, so make sure their needs are met. If they're happy, you will be too.

7. Drink lots of hot beverages.

Picture the following: dunking a tea bag into a mug of water as it steams up your glasses, feeling the warmth spread throughout you as you cup your morning coffee in both hands, and huddling under a fuzzy blanket as the smell of hot cocoa and marshmallows fills your room. No matter your hot beverage of choice, you can't go wrong.

8. Keep up with your homework (and other responsibilities).

Plain and simple: life will be easier if you do. Don't let the temperature cool down your motivation.

9. Get your hands on some pretty scented lotion.

Cracked, dry skin isn't fun for anyone, and should be avoided at all costs.

10. Get enough sleep.

Winter alone can make you feel down and drowsy, before you even consider all of the other stuff that's thrown at you during these months. So make sure you're caught up.

11. Cozy up and read.

You can't spend much time outside, so you might as well catch up on some reading.

12. Relax with your favorite Netflix series or a good movie.

I know I said not to stay wrapped in your blanket cocoon, but every once in a while is okay, right? Right. Enjoy your quiet night in.

13. Plan your summer vacation.

Visualize that perfect, warm destination until you make it through to spring.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
