With the spooky season approaching, we often look for new movies to give us a good scare. Although the classic horror films like "The Exorcist" and "The Shining" are legendary, here are some underrated films to watch this Halloween.
1. "The Boy" (2016)
An English family hires an American nanny to watch their son, who happens to be a life-sized doll. The first time I watched this movie I was truly scared. Overall a good movie, but THE ENDING. Omg. OMG.
2. "Hush" (2016)
A masked killer appears in a deaf woman's home in the middle of the woods. This one will seriously have you on the edge of your seat for the entire movie... my anxiety was through the roof tbh.
3. "The Gift" (2015)
A young married couple's life turns upside down as the past mysteriously approaches them. This one is not so much scary and "Halloween horror" as it is creepy and thrilling!! Wasn't expecting much before I saw this movie but definitely worth the watch!!
4. "Disturbia" (2007)
A young teen realizes that his neighbor is a serial killer. Not the scariest movie, but I feel like this was one of the first "scary" movies I watched as a kid. Ya know, next to Monster House.
5. "The Den" (2013)
A woman witnesses a murder online over a video-chatting website. Y'ALL! This movie messed me up to no end. Mostly because, this could actually happen! What would you do in this situation?
6. "Orphan" (2009)
A couple adopts a girl who has a wicked background. I have seen this movie more times than I'd like to admit. A true underrated classic.
7. "Dead Silence" (2007)
The ghost of a ventriloquist lingers over a woman's murder. Honestly, dolls? HELL NO. Puppets and dolls have scared me my entire life so this movie was truly a nightmare.
8. "Get Out" (2017)
A young man meets his girlfriend's family, which leads to a serious nightmare. This one is unlike any other movie, I swear. So good, you guys. So good.
9. "The Lazarus Effect" (2015)
Medical researchers discover a way to bring dead patients back to life. Weird AF, right?
10. "Lights Out" (2016)
A young woman learns how to deal with her little brother's terrifying experiences. This one is creepy AF. Who's not afraid of the dark, honestly?
11. "The Invitation" (2015)
During a dinner party, the hosts have menacing plans for their guests. I watched this movie on Netflix because it seemed like it would be creepy and LORD was I right. It's almost disturbing but it definitely draws you in! Talk about a twisted ending????
12. "Ouija: Origins of Evil" (2016)
A woman and her daughters invite an evil presence into their home. I have not seen the first Ouija movie, so no, you do not need to see the first one to necessarily understand this one.
13. "The Babadook" (2014)
A woman and her son discover a monstrous presence in their home. This movie is initially from Australia and when it was brought to the U.S, it was EVERYWHERE. Everyone raved about this movie for the longest time. It's definitely unlike anything you've seen before.
Y'all. I love Halloween. And more importantly, I LOVE movies. So as you can guess, horror movies are my cup of tea. As much as I love the classics, there's truly nothing more that I love than finding a good ass underrated scary movie.
