Winter gets to the best of us. Once the sparkling novelty of snow and staying in all bundled up have worn off, everyone’s ready for spring. Spring is taking its sweet time in arriving (especially in the Pacific Northwest), which is taking a toll on everyone. As a student in Seattle, the grey and cold weather of winter got old back in January. With an impressive 3 days of sun, this winter has been nothing short of miserable. So, in honor of being back after spring break and the weather barely breaking 50 degrees, here are 13 things to do when spring won’t come.
1.Cry
Everyone's in the same boat. We all want to and know we want to. It's ok, let it out. Plus, if you do this on your way to class and its raining, it blends right in.
2. Binge Watch Psych
First off, this is the best show ever. Second, it's set in Santa Barbara so you can live vicariously and enjoy the 'warm weather'. Laughing and pretending you're in nicer climate will let you forget that it's way too cold for April.
3. Dress Like It's Spring
Fake it till you make it. If you dress like its spring, it will be spring. Maybe. Or it might just be cold. But either way, you'll look bomb and convince people that it actually is spring.
4. Book an Island Trip
Use your parents money, use your money, use anyones money. Get out of town and go enjoy an island in the sun. Sometimes it's just not worth it to suffer through.
5. Stalk Your California and Florida Friends
When the weather's been this bad for so long, everyone hates themselves a little for not living in the sunny states. Stalk your friends on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, FaceTime, Skype, in person. Whatever gets you feeling better.
6. Call Your Mom
Mom's fix everything, even the weather blues. It's some kind of sorcery I'm sure, but it'll work and make you feel more optimistic about the weather. She'll tell you what you need to hear to get back on track.
7. Get Fairy Lights
If you don't have them already, invest. They'll brighten your room and make it seem like its not so dark and cold all the time. It'll bring back the feelings of coziness as you wait the weather out.
8. Get A New Wardrobe
Shopping is the remedy for all. Go treat yourself to a new spring wardrobe. It might sit in your closet for a while, but you know you'll have some awesome pieces to wear when it does warm up. Go shop until you drop (probably because you're Vitamin D deficient).
9. Go See A Movie
Netflix in bed is great, but if you're doing it for two weeks straight maybe switch it up a little (no judgement though, I've been there). Take a friend or go solo, but a change of scenery does everyone some good.
10.FaceTime Your Dog
If you don't have a dog, FaceTime your friend's dog. Dogs are the best, and seeing their confused head tilts and sniffs will brighten your day. You'll easily spend thirty minutes talking with them, and will smile for at least an hour afterwards.
11.Build a Blanket Fort
Let your inner kid shine and build a fort. Plus, if you sit in it long enough, it'll get really hot and make you feel like its actually warm outside. You could totally rock your new spring wardrobe in there too.
12.Sleep
When in doubt, sleep it out. Bears were on the right track with hibernating. Hibernate away, and when you wake up it'll be spring time again (hopefully).
13.Make a Spring Playlist
Get your tunes ready for when you can rock out in the sunshine. Happy tunes equals happy you. Popular suggestions: Beach Boys, Here Comes the Sun, and I'm Walking On Sunshine.
Winter can be hard to get through, but when the warm weather eventually hits it's bliss. It may not have come soon enough (thanks global warming), but you're closer to spring weather than you were a month ago! Power through and know that sunny days are coming your way.
