Now that you have officially moved into to college, I thought maybe you would like some ideas for what to do when you have down time between classes. My freshmen year, I had 3 hour breaks between some of my classes sometimes so when you have long breaks you need to get creative and figure out how to make the fly by. Here is a list of things you can do between your classes.
1. Watch Netflix
I don't think I really had to tell you about this one. There is no better way to pass the time. Maybe if you have enough time, you can catch up on your show, watch a movie or maybe even binge watch a whole show
2. Find a cool hidden gem on campus
At Wilkes University, our campus is very open. There are a lot of spots on campus that you can sit down and relax or maybe even do some work (or maybe watch Netflix outside). I think I found at least one new spot that I didn't know existed.
3. Take a power nap
Power naps have been to be more effective and make you more productive. Naps in general will be your lifesaver when in college. Especially if you didn't get enough sleep the night before. I took a power in between my morning classes, it does really help. They can be very powerful if used correctly, so why not use a break in between classes to power up with a power nap?
4. Do homework
This one seems like a no-brainer, but honestly it can be hard to stay motivated to get homework done during this time. But in between classes is the perfect time to get cracking at your homework. I went through the same thing, it is a lot easier to do your work when you can then sitting up all night trying to get done.
5. Visit a professor
If you are struggling in a class, go visit your professor and talk to them about it. Most professors or TAs have office hours and would be glad to help you. I personally was terrified to go a professor for help, but it is better than trying to figure something that you don't know. No matter how intimidating they are, your professors are there to help you succeed.
6. Get an on campus job
Working on campus is a great way to not only kill time between classes, but also to gain job experience for after graduation. Most colleges have a lot of Work Study jobs available for students. There are a lot Work Study opportunities at Wilkes.
7. Join a club
At Wilkes University, there are A LOT of clubs for you to join. There is literally a club for everything. Clubs such as, Adventure Education, Student Government, Programming Board, IRHC, Commuter Council. There are also based off your majors as well. All clubs meet either Tuesdays or Thursday between 11am to 1pm, which are club hours. I am in Student Government (Class of 2019 Treasurer) and Programming Board (Executive Vice President). You can get more information at Club Day.
8. Take care of any business that you need to do
Sometimes professors give you paper work that you need to fill out for them, so this is good time get anything that isn't finished yet done.
9. Get laundry done
Let's face it. College students hate laundry, but it has to be done at some point. My freshmen laundry was the worst thing to do. But figure out a laundry schedule for yourself and get it done.
10. Have a little snack
Let's be real: anytime is a good time for a snack. There are many places on campus that you get pick up a snack from. You can go to the P.O.D is Stark for a quick snack or Starbucks in the UCOM (my personal favorite) or grab a sandwich from Which Witch in the SUB.
11. Check your campus email.
This is something a lot a college students neglect to do, but it is actually super important. Most departments and offices on campus use it to communicate about time-sensitive information to students. Professors will email you about assignment due dates or even if class is cancelled for day. You don't want to that kid who showed up to class when it was cancelled because you didn't check your email.
12. Go shopping
If you have a large chunk of time, take advantage of it by heading out and buying those essential college items. Maybe even go to the book store. At Wilkes, there are a lot of places within walking for you go and pick some last minute items.
13. Work out
Most colleges have fitness center or gyms for students. At Wilkes, you can go to the YMCA or use the work out facilities at Martz gym.
