13 Things To Be Happy About

Because sometimes it's hard to remember.

Lately, so much negativity has been circulating around social media. With political conflict, tensions in the Middle East and Donald Trump's face, it's hard to find things to be cheerful about sometimes. So here are 13 things to be happy about.

1. Spring is here.

The temperature is warm, the flowers are blooming and you can finally wear tank tops and shorts again. The beautiful days finally outnumber the gross ones, and you can do homework or eat lunch outside with no problem.

2. The semester is ending soon.

In six short weeks (if you go to CofC, anyway), the semester will be done, and you won't have to deal with papers, homework, and exams. Bring on the endless days without responsibility.

3. The existence of Netflix.

Netflix is a beautiful, beautiful thing. A procrastinator's life would be so much more difficult without it. Imagine the horror of having to wait to watch the next episode of your favorite show.

4. New books are coming out every day.

If you're sick of Netflix, then pick up a book! New ones are coming out all the time. For example, L.M. Montgomery's unpublished (until recently) book of short stories, "The Blythes Are Quoted", is now available for purchase. If you're an Anne of Green Gables fangirl (like me) you can find it here.

5. Outside, in general.

There are two fundamental things that you just can't get anywhere else: fresh air and sunlight. So step out of your dorm room, smell the roses and feel that summer breeze.

6. Love, romantic or otherwise.

OK, I know this one's cheesy. But it's important. Aside from romantic love (and I love watching people in love), just love, in general, is such an important thing to be happy about. Love for your family, for your friends, for sleep -- whatever it is that makes your heart swell.

7. The Internet as a whole.

If you're reading this article, that means you have some form of Internet access. The Internet is truly a beautiful thing. Birthplace of such masterpieces as cats afraid of cucumbers and the entirety of Tumblr.

8. Friends.

There's no better feeling than sitting around with your friends, laughing until you can't breathe. They'll be there for you ('cause you're there for them too).

9. Crappy romantic comedies.

Because why not?

10. Bad jokes and puns.

Yes, they're terrible. But they make you laugh anyway.

11. Watching the sunset.

Back to being a little cheesy, but the watching the sunset is so peaceful. There's nothing like sitting outside in the summer breeze, watching the sun drop below the horizon.

12. YouTube videos of baby animals.

This is a bunny eating a banana. That is all.

13. Oreos.

I have no explanation for this. I just really love Oreos.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
