I get questioned all the time about what it was like to grow up with a parent in the military, and sometimes, it's hard to explain. Growing up on military bases and other countries was such a unique experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm sure most other military kids could agree. Here are 13 things all military kids can understand.
1. Waking up to "Reveille" and falling asleep to "Taps."
2. Standing up for the "National Anthem" at 4:30 pm every day and every time you went to the movie theater.
3. You didn't realize guys had haircuts other than the "high and tight" until you moved off base.
4. The hardest question anyone could ask you is, "Where are you from?"There are just too many places you've lived.
5. You aren't offended when someone calls you a "brat."
6. Along with your ABC's, you learned "U.S. Air Force Blue," "Anchors Away" and "The Army Goes Rolling Along."
7. Forget Hannaford, Target and Walmart. Everything you ever needed was available in the Bx/Px or Commissary.
8. You learned how to cook at a very young age – cook MREs, that is.
9. Most areas of your life were decorated with the American flag.
10. Meeting other military kids means you've just met a new best friend.
11. You have an extensive knowledge of geography, probably because you've lived in most of these places, or one of your friends lives there now.
12. Turning 10 years old and getting your very first military I.D. card was a huge deal.
13. You wouldn't change it for the world.
